NES Works looks back on Paperboy and Skate or Die!

Two games 90s kids couldn't resist

The 99th episode of NES Works is a special one for me, and I think a lot of older gamers will feel the same way.

I’m not sure how certain NES games got popular back in the day, other than word of mouth. We didn’t have online reviews or much in the way of TV commercials, which meant you went into stores pretty much blind and picked up whatever had a cool box. If you liked the game you’d play/talk about it with friends. From there word spread, and the rest is history!

Somehow, both Paperboy and Skate or Die! made the rounds when we were kids, and almost everyone had at least one of these games in their collection. Even if you didn’t own both, you had certainly heard of them! They might not stand the test of time for some and modern gamers are sure to scoff at this pair, but these two are definitely worthy of remembering.

Hell, I still play Paperboy and get a lot of fun out of it! Now Skate or Die! on the other hand…let’s just say it doesn’t hold up so well.

I'd never played nor heard of Skate or Die! before now. From the looks of things, I didn't miss much.

Paperboy on the other hand. Oh ya, I know that game well, great fun. Reminds me of my youth. I wouldn't mind a modern day version of it.
