Muramasa: The Demon Blade originally released for Wii all the way back in 2009, and it came from Vanillaware. The game was praised for all sorts of reasons, including its absolutely gorgeous 2D art; a Vanillaware staple. With the Wii being an SD platform, Muramasa: The Demon Blade seems perfect for an HD re-release on modern platforms, but it seems something is keeping Vanillaware from making that happen.

In an interview with Nintenderos, Vanillaware president George Kamitani shared interest in revisiting Muramasa for a re-release. That said, it appears there are some problems preventing the game from returning.

“I think we would. I, too, would like to port Muramasa, but there are issues there that I won’t go into… Our priority now is to start on the homework that has been piling up on us…meaning, get to work on the games that we’ve been planning to make.”

The desire is there, but some things have to be ironed out before it can happen. We don’t get any insight into what’s holding a re-release back, but hopefully Vanillaware can clear those issues up.

I'd buy it in a heartbeat, but I don't think I'd play it for the third time any time soon.
