When Dead Cells first arrived on the scene in 2018, people were very quick to point out the similarities to Castlevania. While the roguelike gameplay is different from what Castlevania has offered, there’s no doubt the base mechanics, locations, and creatures were heavily inspired by Konami’s long-running franchise.

Now everything has come full circle, as the Dead Cells team collaborated with Konami for Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania DLC. Instead of just being inspired to Castlevania, Dead Cells is now directly tied to the legendary franchise. Not surprisingly, Konami was more than down to tie up for this DLC release.

In an interview with IGN, Castlevania supervisor Tsutomu Taniguchi spoke about the two franchises coming together, and it’s clear Konami was quite eager to make this DLC a reality.

“We tried to bring back the games that people loved and cherished with the Castlevania Anniversary Collection and the Castlevania Advance Collection, we also brought back Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night for our PlayStation fans and on mobile, and launched Grimoire of Souls on Apple Arcade to celebrate the lore of the franchise,” Taniguchi said. “But we know that our fans always want more, and we do too, so this opportunity to have this amazing crossover with Dead Cells was impossible to pass up on. “
