A severe vulnerability, which could allow for full console takeover, has been found in a variety of first-party Wii U, 3DS and Switch games, Twitter user PabloMK7 has reported. You can see all the technical details in this GitHub report , and you can see the exploit in action and described in less technical terms in the Twitter thread that starts with the tweet linked below.

The exploit has been fixed for most games it once worked in, barring the original Splatoon and Mario Kart 8 on Wii U. However, it’s likely that more games are vulnerable than have been found. To get a good idea of how widespread this issue was, it was once found in Mario Kart 7, all Splatoon games, including 3, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, ARMS, Nintendo Switch Sports and Super Mario Maker 2. Those have all been patched, but it might be best to play other Nintendo games online with caution for now.
