The Metroid Prime remaster dropped during yesterday’s Nintendo Direct, and for the most part people have been very impressed by its enhanced visuals. However, there’s at least one complaint floating around, and it comes from none other than Zoid Kirsch, Senior Gameplay Engineer on Metroid Prime and Metroid Prime 2: Echoes.

Kirsch thinks the new version of Metroid Prime failed to do justice to his door design, and illustrated his point by way of the comparison above (on the left is a door from the original Metroid Prime, on the right, the same door in the new remaster).

See the quote from Kirsch’s original tweet below:

They f#$%ed up the doors in the re-mastered Metroid Prime! They have the wrong alpha level on the door shields. Left is original, second is re-mastered.

I tend to be a bet picky about this since I literally spent months working on the doors. This should be fixed.

In a follow-up tweet, Kirsch clarified that he thinks the remaster is “amazingly well done” and “should be played and enjoyed”. Clearly, he’s just very passionate about those doors!

It makes sense that someone who worked on a project like this for so long would be a little precious about its treatment, but it seems that he still appreciates the final product overall. Have you played Metroid Prime Remastered yet? If so, let us know how satisfied you’ve been with this version’s graphics overhaul.

I understand why he feels that way, but he used the absolute worst example for the new doors for his comparison. If you actually look at the doors up close in the remaster, you can see that the metal is just a lighter color and the lighting of the forcefield is brighter. It’s not a different design, it’s just different coloration and lighting. Dude’s making a stink out of nothing.

I do like the old design better but the new one is more similar to the 2D look.
