Here’s a little tidbit of information you might find interesting. Metroid Prime Remastered and Metroid Prime have one big thing in common beyond the game itself, and it all has to do with the engine powering the project.

Back when Retro Studios originally created Metroid Prime, it was the first game to run on their proprietary RUDE engine. Ever since that day, Retro has been using that same engine for their projects, albeit with major updates every step of the way.

Believe it or not, Metroid Prime Remastered is running on the latest version of that same RUDE engine. This means that Metroid Prime Remastered isn’t emulated or using Unreal Engine, as many have speculated. It’s all come full circle for the game, as Metroid Prime is now using the latest version of the engine it birthed!

That’s awesome to know. We get a glimpse into what kind of fidelity Prime 4 will bring to the series a little bit early. I really hope this is just the beginning of the Prime remasters for Switch leading up to the eventual Prime 4 release. It will be awesome to revisit all of the story and gameplay after so long and have a seamless transition into the new canon they’re sure to bring with Prime 4.

"This means that Metroid Prime Remastered isn’t emulated "

LIKE DUUH! =D

Seriously though, this game looks more like a remake than a remaster. It looks amazing.

This definitely looks like the 'big boy remaster' that was rumored for awhile, I havn't played it yet but it looks amazing. I'm shocked it was shadow dropped but more shocked it doesn't cost 60 dollars.

I mean its a first party developer..why would they use a third party engine when they can modify their own engine to make it work out?

Well, the RUDE engine is a fork of Unreal, but of Unreal 2 (which was the latest when Metroid Prime first came out). While it's not something like Unreal 4 or 5, I imagine they've kept it updated separately since then.

Like how the GoldSrc/Source/Source 2 line spun off from id Tech 3 and is still going strong, even though we're now on id Tech 7.

Oof. Please don't propagate unfounded tweets like these as facts.

@socar

Many first party developers use third party engines.
Nintendo themselves used Unreal Engine for Yoshi’s Crafted World. They also use third party physics engines like Havok for BOTW.

This is false. This statement came from a user named Waker at assembler games who assumed a lot of things that were all debunked.

Unfortunately the rumor took hold and many people still believe it despite the large amount of evidence against it.

RUDE is a proprietary engine and that's one of the reasons it ran so well on the GameCube because it was built for it.

Well I stand corrected then.
