I think we all knew that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was going to break records, and here we are with proof of that, thanks to our friends over in the UK.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is officially the biggest boxed video game launch of the year in the UK, selling over 200k units so far. To put things in perspective, Tears of the Kingdom beat out the previous record-holder, Hogwarts Legacy, by more than 50%. Obviously, Tears of the Kingdom is only available on Switch, while Hogwarts Legacy was on multiple formats at launch, making this achievement all the more impressive.

Along with that comes another record, the biggest Zelda launch in the UK ever. It managed to surpass the previous record-holder, Breath of the Wild, 2.7 times over. That said, sales of Tears of the Kingdom were 12% lower than Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, so it’s not the biggest Switch launch of all-time. Tears of the Kingdom did bring in more revenue though, as the higher price tag helped it see 8% higher revenue than Scarlet/Violet.

Finally, after just two days of sales, Tears of the Kingdom is the eighth best-selling Zelda game in the UK ever. You can see the breakdown of the top 10 Zelda titles in the UK in the chart below.

Things are looking good for this new Zelda game. At this rate it might even beat Link's Crossbow Training!
