I think it’s fair to say that many 3DS owners have considered the platform to be ‘dead’ in terms of new releases for a few years now. Nintendo’s financial information proves otherwise, and it actually shows that the latest fiscal year was one of the most active for 3DS in awhile!

In Nintendo’s 2019/20 and 2020/21 fiscal years, the 3DS saw just two games released. Fast-forward to the 2021/22 fiscal year, and the 3DS got a whopping 8 titles! Keep in mind, none of these games were first party releases, but they’re support nonetheless!

Of course, now the question is just how long will the 3DS continue to see games released for it? Those titles will have to be physical releases moving forward, but I’m sure there’s plenty of hobbyist/indie devs that’ll cook up some ideas for the aging portable.

I was wondering if this was just because of the 3DS and Wii U eShops shutting down, that people were getting their last games in before the deadline. Do we know if these are counting just retail/eShop or both?

Cool that the eshop is being shut down pretty soon when games are being released :/
