Upcoming metroidvania 'Mysplaced' looks a little too close to Zelda: Link's Awakening
A link between worlds
You’d be forgiven for taking a quick glance at the upcoming metroidvania ‘Mysplaced’ and thinking it was Zelda: Link’s Awakening. Plenty of games have been inspired by The Legend of Zelda series, but in the case of Mysplaced, it certainly seems more than just an inspiration.
Everything from the visual style to mechanics, and even camera movements look extremely similar to Nintendo’s Switch remake of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. For many Zelda fans, this kind of ‘tribute’ comes too close to the original, and isn’t doing enough to separate itself from the source of inspiration.
Developer Soheyl Ghiami says the game is more a metroidvania than a Zelda clone in terms of gameplay, but even if that’s the case, the visuals are nearly identical to Link’s Awakening. Some eagle-eyed fans have even spotted level layouts that are very similar as well. Ghiami is yet to comment on the accusations.

I try not to declare something as a rip-off at first glance. At first I thought Genshin Impact was a clone of Breath of the Wild but then I played it and discovered how different it is, despite some similarities.
That said, wow this really does seem uncomfortably close to Link's Awakening.

1+ y agoUm, ok. I hope they do more to differentiate things. Some of the layouts there were copies from Link's Awakening.

1+ y agoDoesn’t look to have any frame rate issues so definitely isn’t a clone of Links Awakening ;)

1+ y ago2 people made this thus far. And Link's Awakening Remake on Switch had how many people work on it? Blatant copy in various ways or not, this is impressive looking.

1+ y agoEven if the game really is good, they've given people a really prominent reason not to pay attention to their game. If they had just picked a different look more, people would be judging the game by its own merits.
And I wasn't particularly wild about Link's Awakening's new look in the first place. But if I hear that this is a good game and plays like a good Zelda game, maybe I'll consider it.
