Retro Studios is responsible for some of the most highly acclaimed Metroid games of all time with the Metroid Prime trilogy. Considering that, you can imagine that they have some thoughts on the way the latest entry in the series, Metroid Dread was handled. In the video above from Kiwi Talkz, you can watch former Retro employees Eric Kozlowsky (Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze), Kynan Pearson (Metroid Prime 2), Clark Wen (Metroid Prime 1 & 2), and Carlos Medieta (Metroid Prime 2 & 3) talk through their experiences with the game.

For the most part, it sounds like they were very impressed with Dread and consider it to be an excellent title. They do express a few criticisms concerning aspects such as the difficulty spikes and lack of visual storytelling in certain sections. However, they praise the animations, soundtrack, and overall design. Metroid Dread doesn’t necessarily follow the same playbook as Retro’s past titles, but it’s earned its place as a beloved entry in the series for fans and developers alike.
