TMNT: Shredder's Revenge pays tribute to multiple fighting game classics
How many did you recognize?
TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is a beat’em-up, but the game has a ton of ties to classic fighting games as well. The Turtles have quite a collection of moves at their disposal, and it turns out more than a few have been inspired by iconic franchises like Street Fighter, Fatal Fury, and more.
In the image above, you can see that one of Michelangelo’s attacks is nearly identical to that of E. Honda from Street Fighter II. That’s just the tip of the iceberg, though! In the tweets below, you can see the many other TMNT moves alongside their fighting game inspirations. The teams at Tribute and Dotemu clearly have a ton of appreciation for the fighting game greats!

11M agoA few may very well be homages to fighting games, but to me most just look like generic action poses that anyone might come up with these days. A few are even very weak reaches.
silhouettes clarity, simplification, and exaggeration techniques used in the animation industry are more homogenized now than ever, which most likely resulted in similar poses.

11M agoI'm sure a lot of these are not actually references to older games. Too many are just generic fighting poses.
