Switch version of Catan losing online multiplayer on Aug. 4th, 2022

Asmodee Digital, the publisher of Catan on Switch, has announced some very unfortunately news. On August 4th, 2022, online multiplayer for Catan will be disabled. According to Asmodee, this is a direct consequence of GameSparks’ servers being shutdown. GameSparks is an external service by Amazon which is essential for the online multiplayer in Catan.

While that’s definitely a huge bummer, there is a tiny silver lining. Anyone who hasn’t picked up Catan on Switch yet will be able to do so at a cheaper price. Asmodee is going to drop the price from $20 to $15 due to the online multiplayer situation, but as you might guess, those who already own the game are out of luck.
