Nintendo is planning on reducing the size of the Nintendo Switch box by 20% starting from August 2022, this is according to Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Only the regular model will see this change; the OLED and Lite models will remain the same. Nintendo stated that this change would help increase transportation efficiency and increase supply. With the shortage of components such as semiconductors, Nintendo can only utilize the space in air transportation and minimize the loss of sales costs.
This news comes after Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa told Nikkei that they have no plans to increase the price of any Nintendo Switch model, and they’ll choose the best strategy to maintain the price.
Nintendo will continue to sell three [Switch] models: the standard model; the Switch Lite with reduced price, size and features; and the OLED model. We’ll work out the best strategy as we go along. We’re doing our best to procure high-quality products at an appropriate price with an eye toward the next few years.
