To use a modern popular phrase, Zelda fans have been ‘eating good’ for decades now. Anyone who likes Zelda games has never faced a shortage, as there has been a somewhat steady cadence of mainline Zelda games over the years, and when you throw in the spin-off titles, there’s plenty of Zelda to go around. That said, an interesting stat has just been recognized about The Legend of Zelda when it comes to mainline entries.

Believe it or not, as of August 19th, 2022, there has never been a wait between mainline Zelda games longer than that of the wait between Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Breath of the Wild 2. That seems like a pretty crazy statistic, but after crunching some numbers myself, it indeed turns out to be true.

I remember the wait for The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess being absolutely unbearable, but somehow, it wasn’t as long as the wait we’re currently in. I even had a shirt I bought at Hot Topic that mentioned the Twilight Princess delay! Perhaps that’s why that wait sticks out in my mind more, but again, the wait we’re currently in is the longest one we’ve ever had.

The sad thing is, we don’t know how wait this long is going to continue! Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2 is a lock for 2023, but just when in 2023 will it drop? Keep your fingers and toes crossed for Q1 2023!

It does feel kind of weird. Like what are they adding or redesigning that would make it take so long? I hope it's just a LOT of content cause my major gripe with BotW was how few enemies there were.

There was a global pandemic during this game's development. There was not a global pandemic during previous Zelda games' developments. Mystery solved! Damn I'm good.

The pandemic most definitely did impact development. I'm also certain that the team has also thought of new ideas during development that also added some extra wait time.

Like most games enemy behavior has become harder to implement to a lot of different enemies, since the preferred method has been to have fewer enemies have more interactions. I also presume that's why most enemies where humanoid. Considering Skyward Sword had a lot of animal-like enemies.

Disregarding that from what they shown, I wonder if that phazing through walls effect will be a gameplay mechanic or if it was just a teleporting effect. Because if it's the former, I can see that taking time to get right.

Also my personal belief is that they're sitting on it for possibly launch it alongside or near the launch of new hardware. Zelda has taken the habit of being that type of game Nintendo uses to push a new system or accesory.

Nailed it. Games like BotW and undoubtedly it’s sequel take far longer to QA and polish than any other ‘conventional’ Zelda games (for lack of a better word) because these games are possibility spaces first and foremost. Add in a pandemic to put a yamper on timelines, THEN ON TOP OF ALL THAT there’s this: filing patents for gameplay mechanics and thus filing patents for entirely novel/new dialectical design language isn’t the most common thing. It’s not that often that a dev team might be able to file even a single patent for a system used in their title. This game has three of them (that we are aware of so far). New ground is being broken (lol quite literally with the conditional phasing through geometry mechanic) and new gameplay possibilities come with them. These all simply make that first point of QA testing that much more complicated. Making video games is incredibly daunting and magical, making them this ambitious is a whole other thing entirely. It’ll be ready when it’s ready, and worth the wait.

This is going to be the biggest Nintendo game ever, so the biggest gap ever between releases is easily understandable.

Yeah I did not expect that... I guess one reason why it doesn't feel like it is because people have been playing this massive game for a longer period of time than previous titles.

Twilight Princess isn't even the longest wait before this one. It was released only 1 year and 10 months after The Minish Cap.

Before Breath of the Wild 2, Ocarina of Time was the longest wait at around 5 years 3 months after Link's Awakening.

If you remove the mobile titles, like Link's Awakening, then Ocarina of Time still has Breath of the Wild 2 beat for now. Ocarina of Time was released 6 years and 7 months after A Link to the Past.

Twilight Princess was still released only 3 years 8 months after Wind Waker, while Skyward Sword was released 5 years after Twilight Princess, with Breath of the Wild 5 years after Skyward Sword. The only reason Twilight Princess sticks out is because it was delayed so they could port it from the GameCube to the Wii.

My only hope is that they expand the game and improve on areas where it was very much lacking in my book.

For instance the clothing slots and horse slots being able to be Easily increased with Rupees or something; because Honestly I always liked taking my time when playing Legend of Zelda and finding all the hidden gems in the games. Past that, I actually enjoyed the searching for strong horses.

Ive even found Rider Links horse [Named him Yasei] with the same high stats as Zeldas white horse [Named her Storm] along with the many different color horses including a Satori Look Alike [Yes I named him Satoru and I love him dearly]

Along with completeing puzzles and searching for treasures and hidden things that were both naturally in the game play, from all the DLC downloaded stuff....All of which I bought....And from the special Items from the Amiibos....All of which I have.

In ALL Legend of Zelda games Ive played, [Especially with Oot, TwP, and BotW] I just enjoy living in the world and enjoying the beauty and obvious time and care that goes into their design; over fighting with enemies and all that violent nonsense. In short Im something more of a Zen player over a Hero player. X'D

Honestly what I loved Most about BotW 1 is that it was everything Id dreamed of having a LoZ game be since I first played the Very First old little 8bit version 20-25 or so odd years ago as a child. BotW 1 has been a long time coming for me....

But theres so much MORE they could have and I wish they had of added....

Such as more clothing slots so you can have literally all the outfits available in the game without having to delete anything....
Such as extra storage in your home [like where that whole entire storage garage is next to your house thats literally just sitting empty] where you could store away your special/extra Weapons/Sheilds/Items from either very memorable battles....[Likke my first Lynel battle that I accidentallied myself into....Same as I did with Ganon actually....Fun stories both of those situations]

Or to store the Many special and totally fan service weapons/sheilds/items you can get from the Amiibos [My favorite of which being Sword. Cant go wrong with Sword. And Ive legit just been keeping it taking up a space in my inventory slot all this time because....Ya know....Its dangerous to go alone. X'D]

But past my silly laid back "Hero of Meh Ill Get There....Eventually" Ways....I really do hope BotW 2 takes the bar even higher.
Especially if they are making it Bigger and Grander and adding More and More like many are speculating.
IDC if its with DLC....Ill Buy It....
IDC If it takes years to complete....Ill Do It.....Eventually....
My main hope is that BotW 2 Improves on the things I feel that they didnt include due to maybe them feeling unsure how fans would react.
There is just some parts of BotW that feel....Incomplete....Like there should have been a system....But it was scrapped....I hope they go Big. They make a world that is....Legendary.
I am looking forward So Much for BotW 2....

AND FOR HOPEFULLY A LIMITED EDITION LEGEND OF ZELDA SWITCH TO COME OUT IN HONOR OF THE GAMES RELEASE TO GO ALONG SIDE MY LEGEND OF ZELDA WII U AND 3DS's!!!! X'D

I Have Refused To Get A Switch Because I Am Literally Just Waiting For Nintendos Official Limited Edition LoZ Switch To Drop....They HAVE To Make One....Theyve Made Ones For All These Other Games I Could Care Less About X'D.

Oh I Hope They Make It Black And Gold Or Gold With The Triforce And Hylian Crest So Itll Match My Gaming Set Up....
Like Im Such An LoZ Fan Even My PS4 Is Gold....And Has A Black Triforce On It Now So It Fits With The Pack. X'D
