So, there's little doubt that Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge is a superior game to Ninja Gaiden 3, but in a console market that's about to be assaulted by Dante, Raiden and even Kratos, it's seriously lacking in precision and balance. And considering the subject matter, you'd think that would be paramount.

With online co-op and competitive modes on top of the story campaign this certainly feels like a more well-rounded package than the original version, but despite ticking almost every box that fans complained about last time we still found ourselves enjoying it less. That's probably simply because it's not as good as we remembered it and playing it through a second time is less fun. But it also smacks of a game focus-tested within an inch of its life, and forced to do exactly the things it was trying to get away from in the first place. But we're sure series fans will consider it a significant improvement and those new to the series will find it an enjoyable, if rough-edged brawler.
