CD Projekt Red says NX will be 'fantastic', says they 'know things' (UPDATE)

UPDATE - Seems that Fabian was offering up similar comments on everything that he discussed in the internet, and admitted that he was joking a bit about what he actually knows.

Coming from a Rocket Bean TV interview with Fabian of CD Projekt Red...

Host: What do you know about NX?

Fabian: It will be fantastic. As developer [CD Projekt] you get access to the hardware and everybody [at CD Projekt] is looking forward. We know things.

Host: Are you lying now?

Fabian: No, no.

Host: Sometimes I cannot tell if you are telling the truth or not.

Fabian: No, no! It was like this in the past as the Wii prototypes came in, back then called “Revolution”. It was so funny that in Japan they were all very excited at the developer studios of SEGA, they thought it was very good. The Europeans took a little longer. Like “Well, maybe this doesn’t work”, you know, because it was technically just a GameCube. It was not much more. But NX what you hear [of the developers] about NX is all very positive.

Host: But the hardware will be much worse than the new Xbox.

Fabian: I think this will never again be the main emphasis in the future [for Nintendo]. Can it [NX] be better than the new Xbox? Take a realistic point of view: is Nintendo able to build a console that has got more power than Xbox?

Thanks to Dahkil for hte heads up!

I really hope that NX isnt that much weaker than the Xbox. If the guys from CD Projekt Red likew the NX we might get Cyberpunk and The Witcher games.

Oh, so they're behind The Witcher? I had forgotten about that.
It'd be pretty neat if the NX got a port of Witcher 3 with all DLC standard.
Though I feel they'll need something more than just an old port or ten to make the NX sell to multiplat lovers.
Here's hoping it's strong enough to handle the likes of games like FFXV

I am pretty sure that they are talking about the xbox scorpio, which I do expect NX to be less powerful to. Now, how big the actual margin will be? We will find out in the future, but at least CPR sounds pleased with the NX so far, so maybe there is better hope for Nintendo when it comes to 3rd parties this time around.

Host: But the hardware will be much worse than the new Xbox.

Says friggin who?

Anyways, CDPR is the absolute most trustworthy "AAA" dev out there, they are the only developer who is provably consumer-first, So if they say something is going to be fantastic, its probably no lie.

Says friggin who?

Possibly Nintendo themselves, according to what Kimishima said. They cannot and will not sell the NX at a loss. Which can only mean one of two things:

1. It's underpowered(When compared to PS4 or the new console specs).
2. It's going to cost more.

I'm fine with it costing more if it means it will finally outclass the specs of all the current gen systems. Hell, people were fine with spending well over $500 on a console. And some were even as fine as spending well over $800 on what is essentially over and actively hyped Vaporware. So. . .

CDPR is the absolute most trustworthy "AAA" dev out there, they are the only developer who is provably consumer-first, So if they say something is going to be fantastic, its probably no lie.

Judging by the clearly hard questions asked, and their handling of which, I am inclined to believe that(somewhat, host did call them a liar, but they recovered/rebutted/addressed it with a previous experience in some detail).

But that said, they have danced around the issue. The last response/paragraph sums it up. He posed questions. They are suggesting that it is at least slightly more powerful than the Scorpio(?), but may not be as powerful as PS's new console specs. Able is one thing, and willing is a totally different story, especially when Nintendo is involved.

It's like somehow I still believe they know what it is, and it's good, but not as good as it is hyped up to be. And that's just specs, we still don't know what forms of input port options are available for this. The guy should have asked if it took full physically purchased games or not; one important question I hoped they had asked.

They are suggesting that it is LESS powerful than the scorpio not more. Also scorpio is more powerful than the ps4neo too.

This.

If CDPR says the NX will be fantastic then we could be looking at something very special.

Edit: *sigh* nevermind...

Why do people want the NX to compete against the Scorpio? what we know is that Scorpio is just another expansion of the Xbox One family, since it is already confirmed that every scorpio game can be played on an Xbox One. Therefore, it's not next gen, it's just a (based on the specs) $800 Xbox One.

It wouldn't have to be "next gen". Look at a game like Fallout 4 - that's a game that struggled on consoles in terms of general performance. If that barrier between standard-level PC performance and console can be torn down, then it's doing its job. Especially if Microsoft (and Sony) are truly committed to changing the business model of console adoption. Whereas the NX continually sounds (and as supported by this interview) to not even be reasonably in the conversation. It's up to Nintendo to prove people wrong on that front, but if the current consoles are slowly phased out from being the lowest common denominator, then NX will be left behind too. Assuming they even convince enough developers to even try releasing on Nintendo systems again in the first place.

Also not where you are getting $800 from. Nobody is selling an $800 console.

It has been confirmed that developers are free to make games that only run on scorpio. Also it is 4.5 times more powerful than the xbone, so yeah, it is definitely next gen.

Seems to me more like a "New 3ds" situation. Excuse me, it's just that I can't get on my mind the possibility that this generation seriously lasted 3 years...

Even if that's true, Sony has continually said that PS4K games DO have to run on the original PS4. Unless we're talking about Xbone exclusives, all third party games would have to keep at least PS4 (which, let's be honest, isn't THAT much more powerful than the XBox One) as the bare minimum.

That statement won't last more than a couple of years.

Generally though at least from Sony and MS we should expect a new console every 3 years or so from now on. They seem to be aligning to the mobile market in terms of hardware strategy.

I'm still anxiously waiting on that Cyberpunk 2077. Maybe we can expect it on NX in the future.

The host's uncle must work for Nintendo!! Insider!

Fabian: I think this will never again be the main emphasis in the future [for Nintendo]. Can it [NX] be better than the new Xbox? Take a realistic point of view: is Nintendo able to build a console that has got more power than Xbox?

It isn't an issue of ability. Nintendo has the resources. It's an issue of philosophy.

*spittake* CD Projekt Red is optimistic about NX? I think we're in business, y'all.

Nothing official. We still don't know two important things:

1. Default Controller type used(if it's gimmick ridden or not or if past controllers can be compatible with it.)
2. Primary software distribution & readability method. As in, games are timeshare/cloud based, or are full physical games purchased at retail shops. Splatoon is a tad on the timeshare side I have come to find, since the solo game on the disc does not have to be connected to the net, but everything else does(recent findings even suggest that most of the code is actually server side, and that the game only provides access to it and not much else).

Without knowing these things, I can't jump to conclusions like others may already have.

Fair enough. It's just nice to know that smaller devs like CD Projekt Red have positive things to say about the console. Holds more weight to me than, say, EA or Ubisoft talking about how much they'll support a new Nintendo console. But yes, knowing the control scheme and whether the system is disc-based, cartridge-based, all-digital, or experimental 5th-dimensional storage is important, and something I'm really aching to know myself. Was hoping we'd get an NX reveal date on the last day of the Treehouse stuff, but that didn't happen. Hopefully we get that very, very soon.

I wonder exactly how much they know... It kills me we didn't get any NX news at E3. I hope the wait isn't too much longer.

I am still fully expecting a Witcher Port to the NX for release, personally. ^^ And it would not surprise me of you got some Zelda clothing and Master Sword for it, haha.

Or, just replace the Unicorn with Epona...

Ah Fabian - the person who leaked the original XBOX, Aaron Webber's partner-in-crime at SEGA - and the only person who is allowed to troll me in real life.

He's a trustworthy person (sometimes a bit odd, but trustworthy) - so: My hype train is moving again.

(also he is BFF with several peeps at NoE, so he can know more, since he also visits their Frankfurtian offices from time to time for old times' sake)

Jokes are supposed to be funny Fabian, not heartbreaking.

Yeah. I'm usually pretty easy to amuse, but this guy and I must not be into the same kind of humor...

If it was meant to be a joke, then he should have made that clear when the host asked him if he was lying/messing around.

Spoiler

Well it's clearly good enough for CD Project!!! That's good enough for me!!!

It could even use a Polaris 10. Which outputs around 5.5 teraflops. Not as powerful as Scorpio but dam not to be laughed at!!!!

It would be a shock to the gaming community if Nin went beyond what AMD has in stock. What I mean is what if Nin paid enough cash for AMD to build an exclusive Polaris chip that is just saying a Polaris 20! That would be the biggest comeback for Nin & put the other boys in a sandbox for years to come. Its that selling off a baseball team just gets me thinking they are going big. But we will have to wait & see this fall for some real news from Nin.

That'd be something! But for me I'd prefer them to play it safer. I think a Polaris 10 custom made APU would be more than enough. What I want is a traditional controller! BUT!!!! I want them to reimagine the Analog!!!! Maybe have it work in a 4D matter. Giving players not only the same control but more!!! Allowing for more advance control options that don't seem like a gimmick to everyone.

I'd buy that if they make it. That 4D matter sure sounds awesome!

He seems to be speculating. And there's no way they are going to have a 5.5 teraflops processing unit. The cost would be insane and nobody would buy the damn thing.

Of course it will be. Nintendo knows they messed up bad with the Wii U.

Never heard of these dev's before so I'll believe it when Nin talks about it.

lol yeah Mr Red Projekt, nintendo "doesn"t have" the connections to ask someone else to build the chips , just like apple products are incredibly more powerful 'coz, android all so cheap, or I don't know east european devs could never compete with the rest of the aaa industry....
come on be serious, in a market with like two three four top competitors, of fcking course they do have the same resources. by that weird logic sony isn't " able" to compete now.

now if you would have instead place the discussion around "promoting" , yeah that would have been right and way more honest
This strikes me as another solidly ignorant fact, the kind you zehardcorz were pushing a few years ago when it was just a freaking guarantee the x1 and ps4 would get some 4ghz cpu , and eight cores obviously . Now everyone just love to pretend they knew all along not to care at the frequencies too much
so Mr Community manager stop reading fans online

I do realize he tried to convey the possible company future with, but let's cut to the chase, pretending to use absurd budget is the key to "aaa gaming" so no there's not and never going to be any place for less effort , the very cheap will always triumph.
Pretend because fcking horse motion capture is a big waste, scenario for gta are a joke

I still don't get why people seem to be in the eternal NEED of a Nintendo console whose hardware specs are in match with the latest ones of their competitors.

One of the most popular reasons I keep hearing is because 3rd parties might want tp jump the ship faster and go on Nintendo... But then I remember that I mostly don't care about multiplatform releases, and the fact that most of these are also jumping on PC, so we're at the starting point yet again.

Why all this showing off high specs muscles should be the salvation of any new system, be it Nintedo-made or external?

That sure is an argument for you personally, but it's not an argument for Nintendo's health as a business. They need to get third party developers to develop for them again or we'll be repeating the Wii U every single time...
People can be personally satisfied with the Wii U (I am, as well), but that doesn't mean the Wii U situation was good.

I admit that point of mine has some personal bias, but seriously- third party support (if any) has to come a long way from just being a "fancy console head-starter" if the company wants to keep people craving for 3rd parties happy.

Perfect example of this trend is with the Wii U- Ubisoft and Electronic Arts have been some of the system's first front-runners, but as time went by they gradually stopped caring about porting (most of) their games on Wii U. Whatever the specifics of each title's case might be, one might think of one main reason: company X from time to time has seen that their past titles for the new machine didn't generate the money they believed to earn, and interests are shifted year by year accordingly to what titles are proved with sales figures to still cater to the Nintendo audience. That's why Activision dropped the ball with their yearly Call of Duty parade not appearing on Wii U since Ghosts, or even why the Just Dance series is still alive not only on Wii U but on the original Wii as well.

Want a truly 3rd-Party champion for this proven not-as-successful Nintendo System? Bandai Namco. (and it's not mainly thanks to the fact of me being a Taiko no Tatsujin fanboy, I swear) Seriously, I don't have the figures to quote here, but the company has made over 20 games for the system, be it multiplats or exclusive titles for the system. Heck, they even collaborated with the twin Smash Bros. games! This, however, doesn't cloud the fact that the so-fabled 3rd-parties issues can't be pulled away by one company's feats alone- every time someone sees multiplats going for everything but Wii U, it's doom and gloom again for Nintendo not being able as a company to catch up every single external company's feats, while on the other hand seeing their 'home situation' to backfire with not popular-performing 3rd-parties that gradually weaken their release links with the systems.

This reply of mine is not a defense of Wii U or their 3rd-party policy, mind you; this is a problem as old as gaming console competition goes, and with the trend of Nintendo customers mainly buying their systems for the proprietary catalogue, the efforts to come to healthy agreements with all those external publishers at once might result more pricey as it may be sounding. It's like in the Italian political scenario's left wing, nowadays mainly consisting of a big political party made of politicians coming from 2001 different minor left parties, with the people in charge from time to time always struggling to find a way to make the whole movement coese and agreeing on any given point...
