Nintendo on Switch having more to reveal, wide range of accessories, sales goal, VR potential & more

Coming from Nintendo President Tatsumi Kimishima...

On the system reveal

“By no means was that everything (there is to show).”

On accessories

"It may be appropriate to call them accessories. Or it might be better to call them add-on hardware. It’s probably more correct to call them accessories. You can assume that there will be a wider array."

On holding back software reveals

"One thing we still can’t show is the software lineup. We want people to touch the device in January and experience the software for themselves."

On Virtual Reality

"We are interested in VR,. VR offers new ways of playing, but that depends on what kind of software can be played. If you ask us whether there are any possibilities, we can’t say no. It may be that we will build VR software titles, I think that opportunity is available to us."

On aiming for 100 billion yen operating income

“As our previous president has said before, an appropriate level of operating income for Nintendo is that level, and that is what everyone understands. That’s what we want to achieve. Based on various projects and new projects that we have, achieving that result is the premise.”

On first year Switch sales

"In terms of how many units will sell, we’re looking at past examples where competitors, and our own Wii, had a lot of momentum, and that means the first year after it goes on sale will be extremely important."

*Giggles*... Words words words

I'm wondering if Iwata wouldve handled this the same way or would he have had information out sooner?

It suddenly struck me how easy it might be to do VR with the Switch. Imagine they made a dock for your face... like those head-mount deals you put your phone in.

The Switch screen will have to be really high res for it to work. Hope so, but doubt it considering Nintendo always tries to cut corners with their screen resolution. The rumors are that it's 720p, which should look great for normal games but would be a screendoor effect nightmare for VR.

That's a good point... even the PSVR is 1080p, and I noticed a screen door effect on it, though that went away eventually and it became pretty enjoyable. I guess we'll have to see what resolution the switch launches at. Something tells me the 720 is probably correct.

Maybe this new president will be pretty cool after all. I'm liking these answers.

Really liked this line.

I was gonna quote the exact same thing. What's he honestly even saying here...

Reads like a line from a sitcom.

Guess they talk about that extra gpu in the dock that gives it an extra boost of power on the TV...hahaha..haha...(puts head on desk)

And here I was sure that Nintendo was just going to launch the thing without ever announcing a release date, a price, features, or any games for it.

Kimishima showing how wide the Switch is

"It was this big, I swear!"
