RUMOR - third version of Pokemon Sun/Moon well into development for Switch

This comes from an Eurogamer report...

- new version of Pokémon Sun and Moon will launch for Nintendo Switch
- well into development
- launch in 2017, and currently holds the codename of Pokémon Stars
-  first time we see the mainline Pokémon series spanning separate Nintendo consoles within the same generation of games
- shared much of their development with their Switch bigger brother
- Pokémon Stars is being developed by the Sun and Moon team at Game Freak
- parallel development structure has allowed the work-in-progress Pokémon Stars to already feature working versions of Sun and Moon content
- GameFreak largely paused work on the Switch version a couple of months ago to polish Sun and Moon in time
- work on Stars will now resume with the development of features not found in the 3DS versions
- Pokémon will be tradable between Sun/Moon and Stars via the Pokémon Box app
- suggestion there will be more creatures to collect in the Switch version, although not all sources could confirm this
- Switch version of Sun and Moon to feature the same map and the same art style, although be built using separate, higher-resolution assets
- heard the game was initially a summer 2017 launch for Nintendo Switch, but has since been pushed back to later in the year

No doubt this coincides with the triple-hitter rumor that we would receive a Pokémon, Mario & Zelda within the fist 6-8 months of the system.

I can def see this being plausible. I mean, why not put Pokémon on Switch? It's gonna push units...

I feel that it doesn't make any sense in some ways while it makes sense in other ways.

They just released Sun/Moon...Why would people now want to get the 3DS version if they can wait for the Switch if it is true? waste of production costs if you ask me.

However, seeing as how the Switch needs launch games, it makes sense to port this over to switch. But I would think that it will be announced somewhere 2018 because like I said...they just released the games and just doing it for the Switch right now and I feel that its too early.

Makes perfect sense when you realise that this would be coming out in Late '17 [and also that this wasn't meant to be revealed until at least Jan, possibly even E3 time].

It'd be about a year after SM, so the time a sequel pair / third version would've been due [if not a spin-off title].

The stuff about there being 'more creatures to collect' in this Stars version is totally clickbait for the Pokedex selection being greater than SM now, though. No way is there gonna be new pokemon debuting in this mid gen lol

They probably meant new Alolan Formes rather than actual new pokemon. To some Alolan formes are basically new pokemon. But who knows, releasing a third version this soon after the games are out, its not impossible for them to add new ones.

Ah yes, more Alolan Forms [and Megas] is what they meant then.

Volcanion and Hoopa are new pokemon that launched well after gen 6 came out. If this isn't launching until the end of 2017 they could have some new pokemon to tie-in with the movie then. So I don't think that's impossible. Unlikely? Sure, but I can still see it happening. There's a new island you venture off to outside SM's current map that has it's own guardian or deity or what have you.

* gibberish post *

Just cancelled that Pre Order. I will wait.

Nintendo should sue Eurogamer if it's true. A rumor like this at the launch day of Sun/Moon is gonna kill many sales and Nintendo should not be happy with it.

Not really, its Pokemon. Sure some people are going to hold back now, but most fans of the series and casuals that dont follow rumors or will be buying it for the holidays will still be buying it.

You can't sue a news site for posting news. They can blacklist them from stuff like access to preview events or early review copies of games. But suing them? Sorry, can't happen.

Guess you haven't seen the Hulk Hogan vs Gawker Media case and who won...

I'm well aware of the Hogan/Gawker case. And it isn't even remotely the same thing. So yeah, as I said, it will never happen.

This is great. Third versions bring many improvements over the two other games ( move tutors, more post-game content, expanded story). It would probably also remove the slow-down some people have experience with S/M.

The thing about "new pokemon" its probably just Alolan Formes. If they include

it can be another buy for many people who bought S/M.

Also, I don't understand how this news hurts Nintendo. What is better for them? To get more S/M sales or to get more potential Switch with Pokemon Stars buyers. The argument that S/M sales will now decrease can also be reversed: those who bought S/M would not buy Stars. The people who are now switching to Stars, would most like not have bought Stars if they already played S/M.

Crystal was on a separate console within the same generation.

What am I reading.

Here is my prediction. Pokemon Go will update to include Gen 2 Pokémon, then they will release Pokémon "Stars" with Gen 2 Alolan formes.

That sounds pretty sound actually. I mean, Gen 2 is looked upon just as favourably as Gen I [and was literally part 2 to them - alia FF, they figured it may be the last games].

The 'adding new monsters in a 3rd version' thing reeks of Yokai Watch. They always tend to do that.
That said, it's not something I would frown upon. I'd like some more new pokemon this gen, it doesn't feel 'complete'. Nowhere near as many Aloalan forms as I'd expected, and a lot of weirdly weak new pokemon in terms of stats this time around too.

So it would hit the Switch roughly one year after it launched on 3DS. I think I would be okay with that. If it was right after the 3DS version I would have felt like I wasted money when I could have waited a bit for the superior version.

yep pretty bad publicity to say "hey a better one is coming soon" on release day . If only they applied the same standard to everyone but they don't so be sure to subscribe to whatever ridiculous thing they are cool with

Switch confirmed for best-selling "home" console of all-time.

I have never been one to buy multiple versions of the same gen (HG/SS being the only exception because it's the best gen), but I think I'd be down for this if it's true.

Eurogamer was on the money before about a few Switch rumors, so I'm gonna give them a bit of leniency in this rumor.

After Nintendo put thwir handheld and home console departments together, it was obvious that there would be a Pokemon game on Switch....

Duh moment.

And why not Stars? Perfwct since the basis is already finished anyway.

My only complaint about this is that Pokemon Eclipse is the superior name.
