Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask fan-project looks to provide a VR experience

We originally reported on the person behind this project years ago, but the project has since taken on a new direction. It's still focused on Majora's Mask, but it looks to recreate key experiences from the game in Virtual Reality. Is that enough for Nintendo to swoop in and stop the project, or far enough outside of what Nintendo would do to leave the creator alone?

I think as long as it's only a tech demo and not an actual game they'll be fine, those Unreal Engine tech demos have been left alone.

I love that now, whenever we see a cool Nintendo-fan project, the first thing we think is, "I wonder how long until Nintendo shuts this down?"
Again, the weird thing is just that they've only recently started caring enough to shut fan projects down, despite the fact that, for years before, it was never an issue.

And thing is it's really only been fan games that have been shut down, I've yet to see any fan films or tech demos taken down. "Majora's Mask HD" fan trailer's been around since 2012 and nothing happened to that, neither the Zelda x Ghibli fan trailer, and hell "A Fox in Space" has been left alone ever since the creator made it 100% clear it's completely non-profit and self funded.

Fan games I can understand because you could make the argument they act as a "free replacement" for Nintendo's ultimate bottom line, which is providing games you can't get on platforms other than their own. Fan films are a different story as they can't replace the experience of an interactive game, I think the only thing Nintendo cares is "is it making any money off our trademark?" and if it's not they leave it alone.

To be honest, I think people should stop assuming every fan project will be shut down. Nine times out of time, they're not because no one makes a huge deal of them or no one cares in general.

Even the shut downs we've seen are what... 0.1% of the projects out there. This could literally be a full remake of Majora's Mask, and if things went well, it wouldn't be shut down. Or it could be one scene and shut down. Either way.
