North America - Pokemon Snap hitting Wii U VC tomorrow

Catching Pokémon is a snap!

Travel to Pokémon Island and meet Professor Oak to begin a safari to take the best possible photographs of 63 different Pokémon. The island has many types of climates and environments to explore, along with secret activities and hidden passages to discover. Some of the Pokémon can be a little shy and won't pose for the camera unless you tease them with special items! After you’re done, submit one picture of each Pokémon to Professor Oak, and he'll judge it based on size, pose, technique, and number of Pokémon captured. Start practicing if you want to snap the perfect shot!

It is crazy how of all the game sequels released on the Wii U, we never got one for this. Between the gamepad and the fact that there have been something like 500 Pokemon created since the last one, that should have been an obvious choice. :‌-/

I couldn't agree more.

I can't believe that when Nintendo was trying to come up with unique uses for the GamePad to spur growth, someone didn't say "Hey...Pokémon Snap 2 with the GamePad as your camera!"

I suppose in the future they could go the VR route if TPC ever decides to green light a sequel.

The "mini-game" un S/M where you take photos it's really entertaining but how awesome would be if they expandad that into a "Snap 2".

Could it be because it was made by HAL the issue this hasn't had a sequel?

"It’s really popular! We get this a lot. If they were to create another one, they’d probably need to come up with some kind of new invention to make it fresh… of course, everyone thinks of the GamePad, but whoever made it would have to come up with something unexpected. Pokemon Snap was developed by HAL, originally, which is now part of Nintendo. I’m the director at the Pokémon Company, and we’re certainly not stopping it from coming out!" — Junichi Masuda

I do not follow.

Walk me through the chain of logic: 'The original was developed by HAL' ---> 'HAL is now part of Nintendo' --> 'Nintendo is therefore not going to make a sequel to a game developed by a studio that is now part of them'

???

I think it's more on the Pokemon Company side of things. I mean, their politics towards the Pokemon brand have felt restricted. I mean the lack of sound effects on some pokemon in Mario Maker, while amiibos have useless applications, the Pokemon amiibo seem like the more limited and the less used ones, and finally the mobile games are external to what Nintendo is doing with their own IP.

Also it more or less sounds like they want HAL to ask them to make another Pokemon Snap.

Given that HAL is part of Nintendo, this seems like it would have been a very easy thing for Nintendo to have accomplished.

I've never played it, so I'm very excited about this. I've heard a lot of good things about it and I enjoyed using the Poké Finder in Pokémon Moon. I'm totally buying this.

Regarding there not being a Pokemon Snap 2 I think there was an interview regarding Pokemon Colosseum or of the other Pokemon Stadium type games. They talked about how difficult it was for them to animate so many different Pokemon which is why the very first only had like 26 available or something. So I'm guessing animating more than double that for a Snap sequal would be quite daunting for them.
