I saw this earlier and apparently it says you can manage your friends from within the system as well. With this the whole headphone/mic jack, and games like USF2 that have matchmaking it feels like we still need more information on what the phone app does rather than jump to conclusions. Although to be fair Reggie hasn't been clear about it at all in any of the interviews.

I still don't believe the whole "can only use online features through a phone app", just due to how ridiculous it sounds.

I only heard the app was necessary for chat.

The internet as a whole. Not even from one person in particular. I know on places like GFAQs (ugh) this is pretty much "common knowledge" there.

The consensus right now is voice chat, friend's list and match making are done only through the app.

What the frick? There's also the Playstation App which does the same thing, so people should already know how this works. But they turn dumb when Nintendo is the topic.

Maybe it's more of a companion app, where you can do the same (or most) things on both. Would be a nice to have both as options.

I honestly believe he has no idea what he's talking about.

I'm really glad you are able to cover the game card slot since I plan to go all digital this time around. I was worried about that and was maybe thinking of buying one physical cartridge to avoid the dust in there haha

Not to mention how those damn 3ds carts could easily spring out when having the console in your pocket.

RIP Stylus... It's too bad there aren't any multi touch screens with stylus support, it would be nice to have the freedom to use finger or plastic styluses. As neat as multi touch is, I always liked Nintendo's touch screens better, for feeling more accurately calibrated, and allowing easier access to draw and touch narrower points. Multi touch only works with fingers, or finger sized rubber points, which make it trickier to have more precise and smoother touch points.

If not Nintendo, I'm sure someone's gonna release specialized styluses for the Switch screen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note phones use a hard-tip stylus for their screens, but that might be proprietary tech. Wacom also has made some effort in bringing quality styluses to multi-touch screens with their own stylus line along with creating drivers for 3rd parties.

I'd say give it time, but I can see Nintnedo releasing a special stylus when/if they ever release a new Art Academy or Flipnote Studio for Switch.

Totally agree about Nintendo's touchscreens. I get why the wider industry went with capacitive, but I'll miss the slight spongy quality the DS and 3DS had. It worked perfectly for the kinds of games they were making, and felt like pressing a button. That came with a more responsive feel than I've gotten from tapping on smartphone glass.

I thought USB-C was going to help it charge faster. 3 Hours is pretty long. I'll be keeping it dock most of the time though.

Well, considering that the Nintendo Switch has a 4310 mAH battery, which is not a small battery capacity by any means, 3 hours is probaby the fastest Nintendo can charge the Nintendo Switch from 0% to 100% without having to make the Nintendo Switch more expensive with more expensive batteries, power management ICs, and battery chargers.

USB c doesn't mean charging faster, it's Quick charge 3.0 that it needs.

I suppose the logic might be play on the go, then play at home, then play on the go. And make a routine out of that.

I'm still curious as to how much this online sub will be. Nintendo's only hope at selling to to people really is to have it undercut the other systems' [as well as providing the requested features in a good capacity, of course].

I know I've never brought one, but I know I'll likely really want to dip in to Splatoon 2, Mario Kart and Smash [at least] now and again [I know you can do annual or monthly subs, thankfully].

So..we can use Bluetooth headset but only when it's docked?

I think it means the wired LAN connection with this. Otherwise it would also mean TV-mode-only for the WLAN connection.

Can anyone teccy confirm if I can use any of my many phone charger plugs with a usb to usb-c cable to safely charge and play the Switch on the go ? There are no specs out for the official charger.

A guide to compatible power banks would be good too.

I think you can use most mobile phone/tablet chargers and power banks with the Switch, but you should be careful to use a good quality USB-C certified cable when charging from USB 2.0 to USB-C. A suitable cable has NO seam on the USB-C end. The metal should be one piece (and there's certification marks on some boxes).

But it's safe to check the specs first before investing in anything expensive.

It's possible. They started producing Switch units in November, so the likelihood of some form of Day 1 update for the OS etc. is likely I think.

At this point I would say so. Day one system updates are commonplace now-a-days

I just hope this means that I can buy a game once and use it on multiple Switch consoles that I own. I hate having to buy four copies of a game so that I can play multiplayer with everyone in my family.

My guess is that it all depends. If you're allowed to have the same profile on multiple systems then it doesn't matter, you can just download the game and play it that way.

If not, or you want the physical copy, perhaps some games will have download play much like the DS and 3DS.

I'm very interested to know more about this as well. I have 5-6 Nintendo players in this house, and yes, we all have 3DSes. It I don't see us buying 6 Switch consoles. But perhaps two. So I really hope I can A) Load my account onto more than one device, and B) Like the Wii U, give any profile on that Switch access to play the games that any other profile downloaded.

Not sure if I'm making sense there, but this could be a real challenge for large families if Nintendo doesn't give us some flexibility with this.

This will work for two consoles at most, in my opinion. On PS3 you could activate your download games on up to 5 consoles, but they cut it back to 2, because people obviously were misusing it for game sharing.

The way to solve this would be to have accounts that are contextually aware of the relationship of people who own the accounts. For example, my account could have my wife's account listed as a spouse and my kids listed as kids. I then would own all of the games, but they would have access to them. Furthermore, I could control who had access to a game. The consoles could then do something behind the scenes like a street pass to affirm that I'm not game sharing with non-household members. If it doesn't sync after a week, the games are disabled. So for legit users, it's seamless. For people skirting the purchase of a game, it will cause problems.

Why? PCM is uncompressed. Dolby Digital is compressed.

I agree that PCM is better if you have a sound system that supports it. But dolby Digital is far more supported with TVs and sound systems.

There's a lot of strange additions post launch like the SDXC compatibility and how the USB on the dock is 2.0 but will be upgraded to 3.0 in a future update. At least they are coming I suppose Smile

Probably something to force you to connect your console at least once... Once done, most people will just leave it connected, making them more likely to explore the online functionalities, making them more likely to make digital purchases?

Interesting theory, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case. Of course Nintendo wants as many Switches as possible connected to the internet for several reasons
