Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap hitting Switch on April 18th, "surprise" teased for March 22nd

Paris, France – March 8, 2017 – DotEmu, developer and publisher specializing in modern releases of beloved retro games, and Lizardcube, are thrilled to announce that Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap will be available on April 18th for the PS4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch (and a few weeks after on PC).

Boasting beautiful, hand-drawn animations and a re-orchestrated soundtrack, the cult classic returns with a unique blend of exploration, action, and adventure. Play as Lizard-Man, Mouse-Man, Piranha-Man, Lion-Man, and Hawk-Man, and use their unique abilities to uncover the land’s deepest secrets. Switch in real-time between the original retro graphics and the visually stunning modern remake, and input your old Sega Master System passcode to unlock all of your old saves and progression – just how you left them in 1989.

Hmm. Maybe they'll announce a delay? :O

They still haven't said how much it will cost, so maybe they'll announce that? Although I wouldn't call that a "surprise" unless it's a really good price. Still, I would like to know how much it's going to set me back...

I'm pretty jealous of these guys. I've always wanted to do what they're doing here. One of my biggest dreams in life is re-creating Super Metroid with all hand drawn animation. In the vain of something like skullgirls or indivisible. They are doing that here, and seemingly doing a great job.

Everyone has dreams like that. A group of friends and I got together once and discussed this topic once before; Essentially we asked if there was a franchise they would love to work on (reboot, remake or otherwise) which would they be. Almost all of them chose Metroid, one wanted to do Zelda and I wanted to do something else that had potential but got lost in time.

I wouldn't genuinely like the next 2D Metroid be a remake as you're saying, but a new one with that style would be pretty interesting.

Definitely supporting this game. Hoping that the announcement is of their next game.

This game has grown on me. I love how Nintendo is embracing the classic gaming and franchises angle with the switch.

I'll be picking this one up.

Maybe a remake of Wonder Boy in Monster World or Monster's Lair in this style next? I could go for that. It's a pretty awesome little series.

Maybe the "surprise" is a physical release.

The devs hinted on the latest metal jesus rocks "lets play" video that they would like to do a collectors edition package, so I'm guess that's the surprise hinted at.
