Official Secret of Mana Twitter account shows teaser clip of Seiken Densetsu 3 running on Switch

Well what do we have here? Square-Enix's official account for the Seiken Densetsu franchise has tweeted out a video of two people playing Seiken Densetsu 3 on the Switch. This title was never released outside of Japan. This certainly looks like a tease for a Square-Enix project, or at the very least, a tease of Virtual Console plans. Thanks to ComboMeal for the heads up!

WOW! I would love to play that! I would make use of that japanese account if it doesn't come here.

Same here. The 1st game blew my mind away with its graphics & music at the time & I would jump on this if it comes out. This is super great news indeed & I hope every single game from NES to Wii U lands on the Switches VC.

If it's going to be released on the Japanese Switch, then you better start learning the language.

Don't get my hopes up. Don't get my hopes up. Don't get my hopes up. Don't get my hopes up. Just breathe...

Cool. Now just get EVERY awesome retro game on Switch, from arcade to SNES and Genesis to Virtual Boy. Get them all.

Maybe it'll be one of those SNES games with added online features?

If not, I still have my SNES copy CiB so I'm good :P. At least it seems like it's coming in some shape or form so that's good.

Don't do this to me, man.
Please don't tease me.
I'll cry if this is just a tease. I'll literally break down in tears...T_T

Welcome to rom translating 20 years ago.

Playable on any device under the sun including the original wii. Save file transfers enabled!

This feels like a "last guardian" problem. Make the fans wait for too long and by the time you decide to release it, people have lost interest. Besides you have far bigger issues to persuade customers to pay money for an official rom, mainly the fragmentation of your VC service (tons of games on the wii, far less on the wiiu and...you start over with the switch...yeah right - maybe you need to take some lessons from sony on this one) and the idiotic pricing (you make people spend 10 euros instead of 8 on earthbound, then you drop it 40% and then you expect people to pay for earthboundd zero?) so this is going to be an uphill battle...to make a lot of people interested...

and dear square enix, if I wanted a portable system thay can play SNES games I got a ton of options, do not treat the switch as the console that will only recieve the quick and dirty ports...

OMG don't play with my feelings Square-Enix !

I fully expect this to be only for Japanese VC. Square wouldn't bother bringing this stateside as is, but a remake though could be possible...as mobile/PS Vita only....

See there's the problem of the Mana series dying in America during the DS era, Square doesn't seem to want to localize anything not Final Fantasy for America (leaving it to third parties to buy licenses for localizations like NoA did for the Dragon Quest DS/3DS remakes), and if Square did try to remake SD3, it would be stuck on mobile/Vita in Japan only.

AT BEST It's a Japan-only release of Seiken Densetsu 3. Expecting anything more will only bring you disappointment.

Am I the only one to notice the sort of background image behind the game footage? Like the black borders left and right have a sort of themed background image of some sort. Regular VC games don't usually have that... unless all of them will from now on on Switch.

Nicely spotted. That makes it very unlikely this is VC. Not that I thought this was VC to begin with, but...

The image is of the game's world map, as seen in the game's manual (featured here in my own copy thereof) :
