IGN - Kingdom Hearts 3 could see release on Switch after PS4/XB1 versions

Coming from director Tetsuya Nomura...

“The Nintendo Switch is definitely a very interesting piece of hardware, but if we lightly say, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll be on the Nintendo Switch,’ I’m sure people will come back and say, ‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One? We want them out first. Don’t focus on other platforms.’ So for now, we want to focus on what platforms we’ve already announced we’re going to be releasing Kingdom Hearts 3 on. And so after, perhaps, maybe we can start thinking about other possibilities.”

Thanks to Trebor82 for the heads up!

Tough shit, we get late ports all the time if we're lucky. It's like giving Nintendo equal treatment is a bizarre, alien concept to these people.

Switch is getting DQ11, genius.

Are you sure about that? ;)

Hyperbole, over reacting to rumours internet users aside, yep.

Just seriously annoying to not see anything from it.

DQ11 is a AAA game that Square Enix will (eventually) release for Switch.

I can understand the situation with KH3, they started making it as a PS4 game and wanted to release that version before worrying about a Switch port. But for DQ11, they chose to make that for the Switch in 2015, and for some reason decided to make it for the PS4 first, and wait until after (2017) before starting on the Switch version. No, that doesn't make sense; the moment they decided they would put DQ11 on the Switch (or NX) they should've started working on it immediately.

"‘But what about the PS4 and Xbox One?"

Who's going to talk about Xbox One? Clearly KH has more of a base on Nintendo systems than Xbox systems.

Square's Xbox support has been pretty weird. Like they're bringing KH3 to the XB1 but yet the HD collections of the previous KH games are PlayStation exclusives, and sure Xbox platforms got the FFXIII trilogy and FFXV, but FFXIV and the remasters of X/X-2 and XII are also PlayStation exclusives, not to mention the only confirmed platform for the FF7 remake is PS4.

I feel like instead of just half-assing their Xbox support they should be putting more support towards Nintendo platforms because lets be honest here, there's more of an audience for JRPGs on Nintendo and PlayStation than there is on Xbox (Xbox generally seems to more often attract fans of action games and shooters, and the only kinds of RPGs to really be that successful on the platform are Western made ones from companies like Bethesda).

And this is coming from someone who owned an Xbox 360 last gen mind you, I felt like I missed out on some really good JRPGs because of my lack of a PS3 (for one I never got to play Ni No Kuni).

FFXV actually sold quite well on XB1 in the US. I agree though they should stop doing half-support for XB1 and just support everything everywhere. It's just weird at this point having random exclusivity.

Solid answer. It's not like they really even knew about the Switch when KHIII production started. They just don't want to box themselves in, but something tells me we'll see some decent Square Enix support this go-around (at least better than Wii U).

We got I Am Setsuna. It's already better than Wii U.

Probably the extent we're going to get is from that team alone.

Lost Sphear, the next game from I Am Setsuna creators Tokyo RPG Factory, is coming to Switch.

Well if you re-read what I posted, I said just this team seems to be the only effort we'd be getting.

What people don't realize when they say why didn't they port it to the Switch along with the PS4 & XBone is because KH3 has been in development longer than the Switch has been known about and developers haven't gotten the dev kits until recently for it. Also those who say it would never run on the Switch are stupid because it runs on UE4 which is support fully on Switch

Well it'd make sense for it to happen [far far more so than it being on XB1 too].

Won't hold my breath but I will also be the next to say that Kingdom Hearts on the Switch (Nintendo for that matter) is a better fit than on the Xbox. Same with Final Fantasy. At least with Nintendo, they can actually get sales from their domestic market.

It's really sad because if I knew the game was coming out 100% for the Switch, I'd get that version but if they can't confirm, I'm not gonna NOT play it on the off chance that it may come out eventuslly

It could come to the Switch...key word is "could". Just like how companies say they are "considering" bringing a game to the switch....feel they just say that to get people off their backs about bringing games to the system.

Not maybe! Just do it. The game I want most from SE on Switch is KH3.

I'd rather them just get a team working on the port now instead of waiting (it uses UE4 which supports Switch, so it already has that going for it,) but I would accept later over never.

The one thing that sort of irritates me is that if they were making the game for Switch and everyone was asking for a PS4/XBO version, they'd probably have no problem causing a potential delay of the Switch version in favor of a mult-platform release.

Come on, Mr. Nomura. You're working with Monolithsoft on Xenoblade Chronicles 2, that has to have gotten you interested in, and special access to, the Switch. I really hope KH3 is coming to Switch.

If they'd only confirm this, I think they'd be pleasantly surprised with the positive reactions they'd receive. It would certainly be a boon for Nintendo and Switch owners.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, I'd even double dip and re-buy the remixes if they came to Switch before KH3 to gauge interest in the franchise on Switch. Having full fledged KH games on the go would be a dream come true.

Knowing Square it will be 10 years after.

That would make as much sense as the xBox One ports of Final Fantasy XV and this incoming Kingdom Hearts III, whose series -again- never got any main installments (or in the case of KH, any previous game) before... or in more Nintendo grounds, Mass Effect 3 on Wii U without either the Trilogy collection or any of the 2 standalone games.

Then again, we're probably talking of a game that is coming out in the fabled 'TBA-Land' month, soooooooo...

Squenix, you want Dragon Quest to be popular?

How about making this game for Steam? Or better yet, how about Localizing the game atleast?

'Give me KH3 on Switch!'

'720 and 30 frames per second, what abunch of crap!'
