12. Bayonetta 2

While I am immensely offended that her immediate successor at number eleven is fucking Minecraft, I'm happy to see the best game of all time make it as high as it did.

You can't deny minecraft's impact in the industry. I honestly expected it higher.

That caught my attention too. Really nice to see our fav witch up so high Smile

Okami at 60 thlugh....

I'm so glad Bayonetta is up here and especially the second game. It is so brilliant.

As for Okami, I love this game to death but it definitely has some issues imo.
As absurd as this sort of list is, I have to say I think theirs is pretty good, I would certainly change the order but chances are a lot of these games would end up in mine too.

I am all happy that BotW is on top spot. It truly is an amazing game. I can play ot for hour beyond hour and never get bored. Actually I am still amazed at how good at is. But sometimes I look at Okami as my fav Zelda :

Metroid Prime at #72 and not a single Smash Bros game on the list at all?

Yeah I was also shocked by the absence of Smash Bros.

How is Tetris so high up on that list? It's amazing for sure, but it just doesn't fit into this list somehow. And it seems like I finally have to play The Witness and Ico... Some time... when there are actually no games on Switch. Could take a few years.

Edit: Ok, this list is BS. Metal Gear Solid V above all other MGS titles? How? Why? Just no.

Tetris is borderline perfect, dude. It's so mechanically sound that after all these years we are still playing the same Tetris, just on better hardware (which allows for more speed and whatnot), but the game didn't need to evolve lilke other franchises because it works so damn well.

Puyo Puyo Tetris is my most played on Switch, and I barely touch Puyo.

I have no idea how Puyo Puyo "Tetris" is fun, but I often play the Game Boy Tetris on my emulators, or my actual Game Boy. Still love it :D

This is just my unpopular opinion, but while I really like it, I still think BotW is way overrated. ^^

btw, Is this chosen by a jury, or by readers?

Don't worry, I agree and I'm sure there are others like us. My concern is that People are praising BotW like it's the greatest game ever made while there are so many glaring flaws. If Nintendo thinks it is perfect, they won't fix it. The overworld is great and easily the best in any Zelda game, but I would argue that the dungeon designs are the worst of any 3D Zelda. Also, the boss designs and battle are very uninspired. And a lot of the 120 shrines (I've gotten them all) feel like filler.

I'll top your unpopular opinion with a less popular opinion. I liked Skyward Sword better.

And I loved Twilight Princess more than Wind Waker

Agreed. A few years ago A Link Between worlds was the best Zelda game apparently and before that Skyward Sword. Seems to just be a selling tactic by fanboys.

To play advocate, I neither saw A Link Between Worlds nor Skyward Sword to ever reach the acclaim of Breath of the Wild. In fact most of the talk I see around Skyward Sword is negative.

Skyward sword was a quick turnaround, but the reality is that it launched with stellar reviews and many perfect scores. Many reviewers went as far as to call it better than Ocarina of Time. But yes, now everybody hates it.

That's called the Zelda cycle. Every new console Zelda game is considered to be the best Zelda game until the new one comes out. It's been happening since Wind Waker iirc.

Yeah I'm aware of the cycle, however it seemed to be a lot more prominent for Skyward Sword because motion controls (which are pretty much taboo now).

Personally loved Skyward Sword, and the motion controls. Only negative bit that really stuck with me was COLLECT 200 TADPOLES.

Same here. Skyward sword is one of my favourite Zelda games.

Well, many of those games wouldn't come anywhere near the top of the list for me personally. In fact, the whole list feels a bit off to me.

Super Metroid is easily the best game ever made, so... this list goes agains that!

I has fury!

Mario 3D world and Maker but no SMB3? What's the critera for this list? Specs?

It's subjective and most of the list is fine, but:

- Starcraft 2 instead of Starcraft
- Super Monkey Ball instead of Super Monkey Ball 2
- The Last Guardian ahead of Shadow of the Colossus
- Not a single Pokemon or Donkey Kong game

all seem pointlessly contrarian to me.

Don't forget Ultra Street Fighter IV instead of 3rd Strike. Hell, The Last Guardian, I'd actually say is a bad game...

Can't believe that mario 3d world is in that list when there are far better mario games like mario galaxy 1 and smb 3. And where's ssb melee?

Golly, this top-list is just as half-assed as that Top 200 those jokers at GameInformer made for their No.200 issue. Lots of biases towards the more modern titles (even for those arguably sub-par entries), and the lack of key titles from former times that highly helped molding the core of their own gaming genres...

... I mean what, no Tenchu and/or Thief? No Deus Ex/DE Invisible War?

If Invisible War WAS on the list I think that'd be a bigger issue :P

I'd rather have -that- on the list than other modern things showcased here but again, that was most of my first comment's point... How many of these titles have come out in the past 2-3 years, again?

If SMB isn't on the list, it's not a legitimate list.

If SMB3 isn't on the list, it's not a legitimate list.

If Galaxy isn't on the list, it's not a legitimate list.

Soooo no Pokemon games, the only FF is XII (which I haven't played, but haven't gotten the impression that people like it better than either VI or VII, which are both considered great), and no Chrono Trigger...

I mean, I realize that you've got a finite size you're working with, and there have been a lot of games that have come out over the entire history of games, but dang...that just doesn't seem right.

That is an awful list.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 being so high on the list makes me want to overlook it instantly. The SMG series is so overpraised. I'm so glad they went a different direction with Odyssey, finally.

I'm definitely excited for Odyssey and the return to 64 style, but the Galaxy games are easily my favorite Mario games. They are the only Mario games I have ever 100%-ed.

It always saddens me that I never see Sonic 3 & Knuckles on any of these lists

These lists will always been confusing until they can differentiate great games from influential games.
It's like Ocarina of Time or Super Mario Bros... Milestones and hugely influential but just outclassed too many times by it's successors. Now, don't misunderstand me and think I'm saying no old games. Legend of Zelda NES is still a fun game to play today. As is Super Mario Bros 3.

But yeah, they need to differentiate great from influential. Also filter out nostalgia and hype for more recent great games.... Like BOTW. It's a great game but it's definitely not the greatest game of all time... Or necessarily even the best Zelda game.

I honestly felt the same way.
The idea of a game which is my all-time-fafourite and not Wind Waker was crazy a few months ago.
Now BOTW is my favourite game of all time.

I've seen some bad lists (ONM's spring to mind), but bloody hell, Edge, that's despicable.

Oh joy... cannot wait for the next 20 uears pf how no new Zelda will ever match BotW now...

This is one of the worst put together all time game lists I've ever seen. But, I guess that's why it's more of an opinion piece. I mean, Portal 2 is far superior to the first, and it's not even on the list. Link to the Past and Super Metroid should both be top ten. I can go on and on. Just wow.

Breath of the Wild for the Nintendo Switch is the best game ever made? I disagree. It's a very good game, but I think Donkey Kong is better.

No Ys or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games on the list make me think the people who made this list haven't played every major franchise... Though I do like how they put R-TYPE FINAL on it at least. I really do think BOTW is overrated though, and after the initial post-release hype wore off for me it became a Zelda with lots of exploration but little of interest to find with the lack of mainstream dungeons. IMO, playing the other 3D games like OOT out of order using sequence break glitches offers a lot more enjoyment for me than BOTW does. Still better than Skyward Sword/4 Swords Adventures/TP, but I feel the Korok Seed quest is artificial padding and the game would be significantly better without that quest and with improved weapon durability for the late game.

Kinda sad that's the direction of the Zelda series going forward. At least make the next game have traditional dungeons and a map layout without so much empty space. Something like Majora's Mask where every location has something interesting to do but open world would be fantastic.

Odd how Advance Wars is in instead of Blazing Blade...oh well.

No galaxy 1 or Snake Eater? Not even the original MGS? I liked MGS V but 3 or 1 deserved to be on the list more.

we could include only a single entry from any series that features straight-up sequels

38. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

9. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

Um.

What?

They probably mean numbered sequels, since MM isn't just Ocarina of Time 2. And it's built around a totally different concept.
