RUMOR - More details on how to unlock Golf on your Switch

This all seems to tie in with the July 11th date. If your Switch has ever been connected to the internet, you won't be able to try this out again until July 11th. If you have a Version 1.0.0 Switch, you can still do it. On July 11th, you must have both Joy-Cons detached, and at the same time, do a "directly to you" Iwata motion. Thanks to T27Duck for the heads up!

No way this is real.

It actually is. There's footage of a guy doing it from start to finish.

The whole "v1.0 only" is a myth. You simply need a system that hasn't been connected to the internet to be able to spoof the date to July 11th. Otherwise, you have to wait until the real July 11th to do it.

In what scenario would a console past v1.0 have never connected to the internet?

Oftentimes system updates are included in major retail releases, and will load the first time the game is launched. That's how I (sorta) kept my Wii, Wii U, and PS3 updated. Since I don't have a PS4 and can take my Switch to Starbucks to use their Wi-Fi, however, I can't confirm that it's still done that way.

If it is on a newer firmware out of the box.

A system recently purchased. They don't all arrive on 1.0 anymore.

It appears only 1.0 users are having luck so I may be wrong about 1.0 not being a prerequisite. This fact isn't confirmed (and documented) yet, but it seems to be the case.

Did monsieur Iwata have anything to do with the development of NES Golf?

According to this, yes: https://www.mariowiki.com/NES_Open_Tournament_Golf

The game was Satoru Iwata's first experience in developing a game "from start to finish"

Wow, all of this makes it even more heartwarming (if the information is legit, of course).
I really like the idea of having to combine those different "memories" of Iwata to unlock the emulator, and that this tribute to Iwata-san is a part of every Switch console.

i think its just to see how many gullible people will try it

Yeah, I'm gonna have to see someone actually do this to believe it. Currently, it sounds too suspicious.

Wow okay. I'm convinced. That's a really unique way to honor Iwata's legacy. I love that they placed this in every Switch and I'm impressed that someone actually found a way to launch it.

If accurate, then it's a very endearing tribute to Iwata's legacy.

This would be a very Nintendo-like move to do, if it's true. I guess I'll have to wait and see next year Smile
