Kirby Super Star almost included a horror-themed game
The following info comes from the final SNES Classic Edition interview, which features Masahiro Sakurai discussing Kirby Super Star.
Kirby Super Star was released with 6 games in it, but originally a 7th game was planned.

The Japanese name of the mode is 陽炎の館, which could be translated as 'The Boiling Manor'. [Boiling as in very hot]

Our friends at SourceGaming had a couple more tidbits from the recent Sakurai interview.
The original development name for Super Star was "Kirby Active". Shigesato Itoi suggested the name.

Part of the reason that it took three years to develop Super Star was because of the impact of Donkey Kong Country CG technique.
