Senran Kagura producer talks Shinobi Refle localization hopes, Nintendo's reaction to fan service, and more

The following comes from a DualShockers interview with Senran Kagura Producer Kenichiro Takaki...

- Kenichiro really likes the HD Rumble system, as it’s completely different from typical vibration
- it was really challenging to create something that fits it, but it’ll be a completely new feeling when players try it out
- Shinobi Refle: Senran Kagura is still in development and will be very fitting to the fanservice included in the series
- the beginning ShinobiRefle is a pure romantic story similar to Tokimeki Memorial
- as you play further into the game, the usual Senran Kagura fanservice surfaces
- in the past Nintendo was a bit against the idea of fanservice
- as the partnership on Senran Kagura progressed and the series started selling, now they’re just like “Go Takaki! Let’s do it!”
- Takaki-san doesn’t know if the same goes for Nintendo of America
- Kenichiro would like to release Shinobi Refle in North America, even if he doesn’t know what Nintendo of America will think

NOA won't have anything to do with the game if they aren't the publishers (and I doubt they'll publish a game like this.) Any changes made would be mandatory due to the ESRB or whatever company picks it up for localization. Really as long as the developers don't go overboard with the fanservice and do something utterly stupid, I don't think there'll be anything to worry about.

He's talking about what they think, not saying they have the word.

If I recall, NoA did censor some stuff in Dragon Quest 8 on 3DS even though they didn't publish it.

Those edits were already premade for the Japan release in Japan. NOA had absolutely nothing to do with it outside of publishing it in the west.

After reading his comments about the PS Vita and Xbox One I could honestly care less about his glorified tech demos.

I'm starting to think HD rumble will be nothing more than a gimmick for mini-game collections and over priced tech demos from Japanese developers.

Not unlike the Wii U Gamepad. It didn’t get any Senran games though, so at least this is an improvement.

What comment about the Vita and One?

Gotta love how no one cares what NoE thinks, as usual.

That's usually because Nintendo of America are for the most part "Nintendo of the West". If Nintendo of America doesn't want to have it, this usually means that Nintendo as a whole (except Japan) aren't interested. The USA is their biggest Western market after all.

Funny enough though, this actually worked in favour of the consumers (and eventually for them) for once where NoA had zero interest to put time and money into localising Xenoblade Chronicles. The fact that NoE decided to pick up after them actually meant we got European VAs and made people love the game even better as a whole. Otherwise there'd be no demand for the European VAs we're getting in the sequel, and chances are the series wouldn't actually be AS popular in the West if it wasn't for the fact that NoE were the ones who localised it to begin with.

Edit: I may have gone overboard with this comment...

I totally agree. I'm glad NoA weren't interested in Xenoblade Chronicles or The Last Story. My point is, I'm fed up of what usually gets released in Europe/"The West" In General being entirely dictated by NoA. There are differences in culture and what's acceptable between America and Europe, but we just get lumbered with whatever NoA deems appropriate. Stuff that's totally fine in Europe gets censored because of NoA's idiocy, but we're stuck with it because there's no separate European version.

Yes, NA! Go Takaki! Let’s do it!

Just do it already! I am waiting.))
