Shin Megami Tensei V devs explain the game's concept, why it's coming to Switch

The team working on Shin Megami Tensei V revealed some more tidbits in a Famitsu feature. The interview includes Kazuyuki Yamai, who previously worked as the director of Shin Megami Tensei IV. Yamai will lead the development team for Shin Megami Tensei V.

According to Yamai, the concept behind Shin Megami Tensei V is to look back and reflect on the characteristics of the times. Furthermore, Atlus said they are bringing the game to Switch to allow players to enjoy the story in HD on their TVs, then take their Switch units with them to grind and fuse demons on the go, or even from the comfort of their beds.

Thoroughly looking forward to picking this up. Wish Nintendo would throw some money at Atlus to get Persona on the Switch too, but I know that would take a miracle.

Playing from the comfort of my own bed in portable mode or while using my PC (my 4K TV is my only PC monitor) is one of the reasons my Switch is constantly played with compared to my other consoles. Sometimes I like playing it in portable mode late at night so I won’t wake everyone up with my gameplay.

Well I guess that dashes any hope of them reducing/removing the need to grind...

I hope more devs realize the potential in this. This is why I'm holding off on so many indie games (most recently Stardew Valley, now Hollow Knight), despite prices occasionally dipping into some really tempting numbers on Steam. So many past/upcoming games can benefit from portability by added convenience alone.

That looks like Shinagawa station alright…
