First of all, Sonic is a perfectly good idea; plenty of good Sonic games exist and prove this. The problem is SEGA's people don't seem to have a firm grasp of how to use it; rather than take what made the good games good and build off of them, they seem to forget what went right and start over from scratch, never learning...

Second, there's no guarantee SEGA's people will do any better with any of their other franchises...

I wish sega realised Sonic is just not a very good idea and allow their development forces to do some of their other franchises.

Sonic Mania proves it is a good idea. I just think Sonic Team feel they have to keep doing it, instead of wanting to do it. They keep adding new things to each 3D Sonic instead of building a foundation.

So yeah, maybe they should try other things. Maybe another Jet Set Radio.

Yeah, maybe more like 3D Sonic is not a very good idea. I mean these guys own Jet Set Radio which is one of my favorite games ever. They own Comix Zone, they own Shenmue, they own Crazy Taxi, Phantasy Star, Billy Hatcher, Ristar, Nights... Actually the three last games I mentionned are actual Sonic Team games, not just Sega properties. I mean what the heck are they doing programming more Sonic.

Just give us a simplistic Sonic Adventure 3 with multiple characters other than Sonic and no crazy gimmicks and not clutter it with lost world, generations, colors garbage please oh and dump the Unleashed daytime style of gameplay tyvm

The thing of it is. These Sonic games bad as they are. Still sell well, and they are still fun. I wouldn't recommend Forces to anyone but I still enjoyed it.

Why not recommend it? Because of bad reviews?

I have, and enjoy, the game btw.

I just don't personally thing its a good game. I haven't bothered to check out any reviews cause I planned on getting it anyways being a Sonic fan.

Forces definitely is the best 3D Sonic since the very good Generations. If you follow the reviews on Metacritic of the magazine reviews and the user reviews, the game is quite good received with a very few exceptions. What I think the reason is, why the scores are lower as they should be is the release of Super Mario Odyssey. Let‘s take the SpazioGames review as an example:

Sonic Forces stands side by side with the best 3D Sonic games. It provides plenty of good feelings and a few very bad ones, but it's an honest game, and you should trust the Sonic Team this time.

Yet they gave the game only a mixed review on Metacritic. Even the 6,9 from IGN isn‘t bad and would most likely be a straight 7 if Mario Odyssey weren‘t released a few weeks ago.

Forces is a good attempt for a more serious turn on Sonic. Not even in the slightest comparable to the silly Boom-Era. I‘m glad I gave Forces a chance after the dumb one minute demo.
You can‘t do much wrong here for less than 40 Bucks.

What I fear is, since the great Mania was so well received, we may get an overkill of new 2D Sonic games.
I don‘t wanna miss the 3D Sonic games and I think Forces was a slight step in the new direction. Guess this is the problem with the fanbase which is stuck in nostalgia like the Final Fantasy community. Of course there are pretty bad Sonic games out there. There is no denying of this fact.

Anyway, I think the Sonic cycle happened again for many people and the developers will again overthink everything they established with Forces. I don‘t believe the game will be commercially successful. I neither see the game charted in the german and japanese eShop so far which is quite a surprise since the game was released far below the full price. Instead, the, in my opinion, heavily overpriced Switch version of Doom charted in the german eShop. But to be fair, first person shooters are still highly popular here.

Edit: Quoted the wrong review the first time.

Another sonic game that japanese love and the rest of the world doesn't

Just take the Mario 3D formula (64, Odyssey) and run with it. Slow Sonic down and give him moments of speed, not the on rails always running gameplay we keep seeing. It's not exciting to be going fast when you're speeding along all the time anyway. Sonic and Tails only VS Robotnik in various machines. Light story that doesn't take itself seriously.

Sonic is defined by being fast but that shouldn't define what the games should be. Sonic Mania got that down to a tee, Forces doesn't. And when things do slow down, they're just not fun.

Would love for Sega to work with Nintendo on another exclusive and have some Nintendo staff behind the Mario 3D games supervising/directing it. Sonic Team just really seem to be clueless as to what Sonic should be. Seems whenever they have a good thing going they just can't maintain it.

SEGA needs to realize that there are 3 types of Sonic formulas that are all great ideas, but just need more revisions.

-Traditional 2D Sonic is just fine honestly, as seen with Mania.

-3D/2D Sonics like Unleashed, Colors, Generations, and Forces need refining. It boggles my mind that they STILL can't figure out this formula 9 years after Unleashed. Colors and Generations did a great job in fixing Unleashed's problems and perfecting this style.

But some how, they screwed up again with Forces with it's short level design and weird physics. Also, I think Boost Mode makes the game too easy/quick. I fee like it could use a limit or something.

-3D Adventure style: I want an Adventure 3. Fix the issues from 2, and you will have a great game. There is no reason they can't make another. I think many fans would be happy with a perfected version of Adventure 3 in addition to the other two styles.
