Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud kicking off Spring 2018 in Japan

Check out more screens here

We've known for awhile now that Phantasy Star Online 2 Cloud was coming to the Switch, but news was pretty quiet after the initial reveal. Now we know from the dev team that the title is planned to hit Switch sometime in Spring 2018. Still no word or plans on localization at this time. Some more tidbits about the game can be found below.

- since all of the game data exists on the cloud server, time-consuming downloads and constant updates will not be required
- runs at 30 frames per second, but there may be lag depending on network conditions
- a stable Internet connection is required to play
- Switch version cannot play quests with models outside of the PC version
- Arks Cash and Star Gems can be shared across models
- switch between models as you please as long as you are not logged in at the same time

Thanks to Sligeach_eire for the heads up!

I'd like to play a new Phantasy Star Online game with offline modes for single- and multi-player sessions, like how the old games were. It was why I continued to play Phantasy Star Online Ep. I & II for GameCube after playing the Dreamcast versions for so long, and it being now 4-players offline was THE reason I bothered to pick it up.

I agree, I could go for something like that. My brothers and I had quite a bit of fun together on PSO for Gamecube without ever needing to go online because it was a fantastic local-play game as well.

So wait, an online MMO has a local only feature? Well dang, that actually sounds like a lot of fun and would fix the main issues I hate about modern MMOs. (Always online, buggy nature, boring gameplay, lack of local/single player stuff) If GCN VC becomes a reality and not a myth I'd love for them to bring it over so I can give it a try with my friend.

Switch models? Can't play with models outside PC? I... Don't understand. What are they talking about?
