But don't they need to tighten up the graphics on Level 3?

But don't they need to tighten up the graphics on Level 3?

That's brilliant: sort of a "wah wah" joke, but I love it.

Not a native speaker. What's a wah wah joke.
Does it have anything to do with Wario. If not, why not.

Hah, asked myself the same. Not a native english speaker and I really searched for the joke here which seems to be lost in translation xD

When it comes to Retro, really surprised they still exist. After many key people left the company (a few of them because they were annoyed with the whole development of Metroid Prime), it went very quite after the two Donkey Kong games. Seems like they rebuild Retro for a new project. Since the Wii U era there was the rumor about a complete new IP.

Haha. A 'wah wah' joke isn't really a technical term, so don't beat yourself up for not knowing it. It's the kind of a joke where, if someone makes that kind of joke in a cheesy show, the soundtrack plays a 'wah wah' sound on trombone to show that even the show is aware that it was a cheesy joke, but I still love that sort of thing. Please, if you take anything away from my comments, take away that it made me laugh and I was happy you said it. I don't want to seem sarcastic or anything.

Still my question remains.
Since apparently it doesn't have anything to do with wario, why not ? Seems like a missed opportunity ^^

Seriously though, thanks for the explanation ^^

[...] hire Level 2 Designer [...]

For the joke,he made it look like he thought that it meant they were looking for someone to design the 2nd level instead of a designer of moderate experience (roughly: Level 1 = junior, lvl 2 = medium, lvl 3 = senior).
Taking this into account, "But don't they need to tighten up the graphics on Level 3?" would then mean that he thought they were going to hire a new artist to work on the visuals of the game's 3rd level.
(At least, that's how I see it)

I remember that old commercial. Wasn't that for a degree in video game design from SMU?

Is the Retro Studios dream dead? Are they just a farm out for NCL projects?

I think they can assist with other projects while also working on their own. Miyamoto said a few years ago that he thought the team might be ready to simultaneously develop multiple projects, and the studio seems to be growing.

If we don't see anything by this E3, I may start to worry, but otherwise we can just assume Nintendo is doing their typical thing where they don't show games off too early from release. They may just be working on something a lot more ambitious and larger scale than a DKC game.

Rumours are saying its an entirely new project. If true it makes sense that we have not seen or heard anything from them in a long time. That and MP4 being developed by someone else kinda hints at that. If the RavenBlade tech demo s anything to go by, we kno they are capable of pushing hardware.

I hope they get creative freedome and time well spent. January Direct! Where ar you?

I feel like we won't be seeing there game until 2025. They are taking FOREVER on their project. Miyamoto said they could work on 2 projects at once but from what we're seeing they can barely manage to get out one...

I'm just hoping they have been working on something big and ambitious and the four years of silence will make sense once we've seen it... and maybe simultaneously working on a Tropical Freeze followup, but not I'm being a bit greedy.

Are these guys even a thing anymore? How many people work there now? Two?

Perhaps something went terribly wrong at Retro within the last few years. I wonder if they’re about to go the way of Rare.

Reminds me of what Blizz went through for Project Titan.

Hyperbole comment section. It's likely their project is a new IP and likely a different genre. Creating something from scratch takes more time than polishing an established one.

Although I admit they could be hindered by building huge expectations. If it's something that's not presented well.

This is a first party Nintendo studio. Whatever they are doing you should be interested just don't expect Metroid Prime 4. Oh wait...

Retro Studios are five for five in my book. They've only made games that have been truly excellent under Nintendo's umbrella and I hope we'll learn more about what they're up to soon.
Personally, I'm hoping for a whole new IP and a collection with their two DK games. More people need to experience Tropical Freeze!

It'd be interesting to see Retro's take on a Zelda game. How about something inspired on... The Adventure of Link? Wah! : o

It may feel like it has been a long time since we heard from Retro, but think of it this way:

Their last 2 games
DKCR - announced E3 2010, out in Nov 2010
DKCTF - announced E3 2013, out Feb 2014

They reveal these projects when they're nearly done.
