- in 2017, $41 billion was spent on hardware, games content and services
- this represents an 18 percent year-on-year rise, the highest figure since 2011
- spending on hardware specifically was up 33 percent in 2017
- content spending reached $23.6 billion and represented the largest segment of the market
- Nintendo's share of the gaming market jumped from 9 percent to 22 percent in 2017
