Valve's Gabe Newell says he's always been a bit jealous of Nintendo, looking to mirror some of Nintendo's thought processes

Will Valve ever release a game for a Nintendo platform? There has been Portal-themed content in third party games on Nintendo platforms, but that's about as good as it gets. It's clear Valve has a fondness for Nintendo, as we've covered many of their statements in the past. Now today, we have Valve's Gabe Newell saying he's jealous of Nintendo in certain ways.

"We've always been a little bit jealous of companies like Nintendo. When Miyamoto is sitting down and thinking about the next version of Zelda or Mario, he's thinking what is the controller going to look like, what sort of graphics and other capabilities. He can introduce new capabilities like motion input because he controls both of those things. And he can make the hardware look as good as possible because he's designing the software at the same time that's really going to take advantage of it. So that is something we've been jealous of, and that's something that you'll see us taking advantage of subsequently."

Can start by making games maybe.

It would certainly be a step in the right direction...

Well, part of this interview he says Valve will start releasing games again.

I'll believe it when I see it.

They've been talking about making games (especially VR games) for years now and what do we get out of it? Artifact. I mean, yeah, that's technically still a game. A card game based off of Dota 2, but either Gabe and crew have grown completely out of touch with their base, or they know that's not what Valve fans want and just want some quick bucks. Where are the passion projects from Valve that I grew up seeing? Is no one passionate anymore about making sequels to established franchises (Portal, Half-Life, Left 4 Dead, etc) or wholly new IPs? Gabe constantly claims that he let's his employees work on what they want, do none of his employees want to work on anything more interesting than a card game and DLC for free-to-play games? Really?

Yeah, Valve has been going downhill for years, they used to be one of the biggest devs in gaming. Now there mostly in to eSports.
But one can hope for Portal 3 right?

HALF LIFE 3 CONF-

ah, just forget it, it's never happening

How about counting to 3 perhaps?

Everyone is jealous of Nintendo. They are THE name when it comes to video games. At least he can admit it.

That is what I don't get honestly. How is Nintendo doing good affects others would unless it's good competition.

Some people are just salty and take brand loyalty way too far. I don't want any of them to do badly, Nintendo is just my preference. Competition is good for the industry.

They've clearly tried to do their own consoles for a while now, with the Steambox and the Steam Controller.
