SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~ was originally planned as a PS4 exclusive

Did you know that SNK HEROINES ~Tag Team Frenzy~ was originally going to be a PS4 exclusive? Wondering how that changed over to the game coming to Switch? NIS America CEO Takuro Yamashita sat down with MCV to discuss the matter.

Originally we signed with SNK on SNK Heroines just on the PS4 format. Then last year an opportunity happened at gamescom, two third parties happened to meet together outside Nintendo’s meeting room. The first meeting was between NIS America and Nintendo of Europe (NOE), and the next meeting was between SNK and NOE. Of course, these two were separate meetings. Then after their meeting influential people from SNK came to our booth and said “Hey Mr. Yamashita, is it possible to cancel our contract on PS4? Nintendo wants to work on this title on an exclusive basis! So these third parties came together and the team at NIS and SNK decided to go with Nintendo for the western market. Physical-copy-wise, it’s going to be a Nintendo Switch exclusive. PS4-wise, it’s going to be just digital. That’s the deal. We will not release a packaged version for PlayStation 4 format. Then Nintendo will act as a distributor for this game. Then they promised to buy a lot of units. I can’t reveal the number of units they’ve guaranteed, that’s secret talk.

It's not the only time that was discussed, and the other time, the guy said it was because Sony tend to focu on the big 3rd party, but Nintendo give the same focus to smaller companies too, and that end up being a bigger focus than Playstation was promising them.
It's not a "sjw" problem. It's just that Sony focus on the big fishes. Nintendo is reaching more for smaller companies, and at least for NIS, it's working, 'cause they sell twice as much on Switch than on PS4.

Nintendo really does seem to be coming around to the idea that Sony and Microsoft has had for a while now: sometimes YOU have to be the one to woo other publishers/developers...not just have them come to you. The company seems to be making a big push for third party games this time...and it really looks to be paying off for the Switch!

Yeah. 5 years ago, Nintendo was the complete opposite

I'm becoming more and more interested in this game.

This is good business intel, it will lead to more constructive talks instead of them just circling down to ‘money hatting’, though this isn’t too different,

This is a surprisingly candid discussion of how things went.

Right? I've never seen a game company talk about the business side of deals so openly.

It sure is refreshing. COuld backfire for them though.

I think this may have something to do with every company nowadays pandering to sjw's. It makes sense that Sony and Microsoft would want to stay out of that debate, and sony specifically has been a seem applying more censoring in some cases. Also Sony seems to think that they control the market and are being thought on developers, witch its Ironic because that kind of attitude was what made Nintendo loose control of the market during the end of the Snes era, and Sony already reap the consequences of those business practices during the ps3 era (which was the reason that the Xbox brand took off during that era). Sony was already spare, yet it seems they haven't learn anything. Sjw's are not your main demographic even if some of their prerogative might make sense (I don't think they are completely wrong, just misguided), and you shouldn't bully smaller developers or try to control the whole market to your advantage.

I’m with Elfteiroh on this one. It’s got everything to do with Nintendo scratching NIS’ back and nothing to do with so-called “SJWs”

Well I'm definitely getting the Switch version. So good call on their part!

If it wasn't for the fact that the PS4 version is still getting a physical edition at SNK's store, I'd call this a bad thing, TBH. At least have both versions out and ready... Which thankfully, they are in this case. Still, kinda a bummer that the SNK collection isn't coming to Steam or PS4 as well. Looks awesome and everyone should get to try out Crystalis.

This could be the reason Sony stole Monster Hunter Worlds....or Monster Hunter Worlds is the reason Nintendo stole this one? There are some bad blood between the two, & it seems Sony may be more butthurt, since they won’t allow cross play. Anyways, I’m just drumming up drama here...food for thought.

I don't think sony "stole" MHW, since it's also on xbox one and will be on pc. Also, capcom already stated that the game was never planned for switch in the first place (and also the switch is too weak to run the game).
