NoA PR - Pick Your Favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle in Tubular New Splatoon 2 Splatfest

Who is Your Favorite Hero in a Half-Shell?

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Cowabunga! This May, Splatoon 2 for Nintendo Switch will host its first-ever tournament-style Splatfest to determine which brother from the iconic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise is the ultimate fan-favorite. Featuring characters from Nickelodeon’s upcoming animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, fans will vote in three rounds to crown one Hero in a Half-Shell (turtle power!). Will it be Raph, Leo, Mikey or Donnie?

To participate, players won’t be asked to order a pizza, hop on a skateboard or save the city from an army of masked ninjas – they can just start voting for their pick beginning on April 27 simply by visiting the in-game Inkopolis Square. The first of three in-game Splatoon 2 Splatfest tournaments takes place May 4-5 and pits Raph against Leo, with the second running May 11-12 and featuring Mikey vs. Donnie. The final match between the winners of the first two showdowns takes place May 18-19. The full schedule is below:

Round 1: Raph vs. Leo
May 4 (Friday), 9 p.m. PT – May 5 (Saturday), 9 p.m. PT

Round 2: Mikey vs. Donnie
May 11 (Friday), 9 p.m. PT – May 12 (Saturday), 9 p.m. PT

May 18 (Friday) 9 p.m. PT – May 19 (Saturday), 9 p.m. PT

“We love working with unexpected partners to expand our brand and bring smiles to people’s faces in surprising ways,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Teaming up with Nickelodeon and Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles made perfect sense, as we share many of the same fans who enjoy family-friendly entertainment and classic characters.”

Splatfests are recurring online competitions in Splatoon 2 that ask players to pick a side – in this case, their favorite Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle. Once players choose a team, they’ll receive an in-game T-shirt adorned with an image of their preferred Turtle for their Inkling character to wear as they compete in online multiplayer Turf Wars battles to see which side comes out on top. At the end of the Splatfest, each team’s popularity and win rate is tallied up, and one team is crowned the victor. Depending on what Splatfest rank players achieve, they’ll receive Super Sea Snails, which can be exchanged to further customize gear in the game. Because of the new tournament format, players need to pick up their Super Sea Snails by the Tuesday morning following each round. The early squid catches the Sea Snails, as the old saying goes. Splatfests are open to all Nintendo Switch owners who have the Splatoon 2 game and an Internet connection.

Nickelodeon’s new animated series Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles follows the band of brothers as they discover new powers and encounter a mystical world they never knew existed beneath the streets of New York City. The 2D-animated series debuts later this year on Nickelodeon. For more information about the show, visit http://www.nick.com/rise-of-the-teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles/.

Well there's 3 of my weekends gone... They'd better not use the same Shifty Station for each. I think it would be a good idea to halve thae number of points needed for each rank, given that there are 3 Splatfests in a row.

I will vote for Don and Leo. Go away, Ralph! You are always the source of the conflicts in every movie/show! Why are you so crude?!

These designs are from the upcoming "Rise of the TMNT" cartoon on Nick. In which the roles of Raphael and Leonardo have been switched: Raph is now the leader and Leo is the hothead.

Also, all of their weapons have been changed.

Actually turns out their weapons in the new show date back to the original comics.

Oh? Interesting... I don't remember that yo-yo thing... Guess I'll need to go back and look at the comics again.

I have the first 10 issues at my house, I don't think that's correct.

Raph used tonfa in issue 9. Mikey's weapon is supposed to be an adaptation of his weapon in that issue but it's something completely different.

Huh. I saw that Ralph had different weapons, but even their roles (and the rest of the weapons) have changed? :s I mean, I get changing up some things to make the various cartoons and movies and such stand out, but that seems like such a strange decision. I am only a 'casual' Turtles Fan, but I am not sure if I like that change. Though I also really do not like this artstyle, however I won't judge a show only on that.

I think this Splatfest idea is awesome, but I cannot accept Ralph as a team leader, he always made me frustrated in those original movies. XD

Raph = tonfas instead of sais
Leo = single odachi sword instead of twin katanas
Mike = kusari-fundo instead of twin nunchaku
Don = still a bo staff, but incorporates technology instead of just wood

They're also all different species of turtles now, too. Raph is a snapping turtle, Leo is a red-eared slider, Don is as soft-shell turtle, and Mike is a box turtle.

April is now a black teen with some sort of magical baseball bat? Guess they "merged" Casey Jones into her.

Probably the biggest "crime" with this reboot... is what they did to Splinter.

Oh my. Poor Don, everyone gets new fancy weapons yet he still has a stick (technology-based, but still). XD Don always feels like the one no one really cares about. It is neat, tho, if they are based on their original comic stuff with the weapons, but it just feels wrong to change it back after they've been so iconic with their usual weapons. Then again, the original movies didn't allow Mikey's nunchuks, which was very silly.

Also, how are they brothers if they are all different turtles? I mean, brothers doesn't have to be literal, but you know what I mean. I love all turtles, tho, so oh well.

Splinter, tho... he looks like a rabid hamster. XD

Team Marina all the way. Raph can just get eliminated by our amazing skills!

I really like Pearl, but yeah, Marina deserves all our ink skills. :p

Lol right? There was a few times I was on Pearl’s side but most of it went towards Marina.

Mhm, I mostly go by the topic rather than the host, but if I cannot decide on the theme, I'll go with Marina. ^^ Marina and Marie.

There's no Turtle called Ralph.

I only had the game for a bit over a month, so three weeks of getting super sea snails is good for me.

Why is Michelangelo yellow?

Maybe it has to do with the slime Nickelodeon uses?

Their slime is green... like the ooze.

Missed opportunity to base it off their mask headband things.

You misspelled Raphael.

I predict the finals will be between Raphael and Leo even though I'm hoping Donatello to make number one!

Ugh using the ugly designs from the new show. Why did Nick need to reboot them AGAIN?

Donatello is my favourite.

(Updated 1 time)

I was excited at first. ...Then I learned of Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Wtf? It looks sooo bad.

A more "corporate" Splatfest like we often see from Japan... but this is still a fun idea, and the fact that it has multiple rounds makes it interesting. I wish there were a third squid host we could choose, whose vote was "This ugly show is not my Ninja Turtles." Still, I can choose my favorite turtles and enjoy the Splatfest.

Wouldn't be the first time. We had the Autobots vs Decepticons Splatfest for the first game.

Why is Raph a beast? Oh, he could be on steroids. Son, I am disappoint.

He and Knuckles go to the same gym now.

Makin all kinds of gains.

Donatello my favorite, he would be smart enough to know how to win every splatfest!
