NCL PR - Nintendo Partners with Cygames, Inc. On a New Gaming Application for Smart Devices

KYOTO, Japan, Apr. 27, 2018 JST - Nintendo Co., Ltd. (HQ: Minami-ku, Kyoto; Representative Director and President: Tatsumi Kimishima, hereinafter referred as “Nintendo”) and Cygames, Inc. (HQ: Shibuya-ku, Tokyo; President: Koichi Watanabe, hereinafter referred as “Cygames”) reached a business agreement to partner on a new gaming application for smart devices.

In summer of 2018, Nintendo will release Dragalia Lost, an all-new original action RPG application designed by Cygames for smart devices. Nintendo has been co-developing and will jointly operate the game with Cygames, bringing to life the shared vision of a new gaming experience with worldwide appeal.

The gaming application will be released globally, starting with Japan, Taiwan, Hong Kong and Macau. With the support of Nintendo’s group companies, it will launch in North America and Europe as well. For the purpose of facilitating the partnership, Nintendo will obtain approximately 5 percent of Cygames’s issued stocks mainly through a third party allocation of its treasury stock.

The impact of this partnership to Nintendo’s business is factored into this fiscal year’s financial forecast.

Cygames has made a bunch of popular gacha mobile games so in terms of business its a really good move for Nintendo. This is also a brand new ip just for mobile. As long as mobile is always treated as its own thing, I'm ok with it.

But what about Switch Virtual Console?!?!?!?!

Most likely holding it off till E3. They will have to talk about their online service and VC is part of it.

They have always treated mobile as its own thing, not announcing them during direct(only the Fire Emblem direct was the exception) and not even putting trailers for them on their main Youtube channel (they have a mobile channel for that).

Part of me doesn't wan't gacha styled games on the switch... but also I do like the kind of game play they showed off.

Also I find it kinda weird that this is probably Nintendo's first time releasing a band new IP on a device that's not Nintendo.

neat. They're being Granblue Fantasy, right? This should be a good move by Nintendo, and could definitely lend some more weight to making mobile a secure pillar.

The anime horse girls game company is making games with Nintendo. Exciting stuff man.

I'm kind of surprised to see Nintendo involved in a mobile title that isn't related to one of their famous franchises.

They're running out of Fire Emblem characters to put in sexy Easter costumes, and that wouldn't work for most of their other franchises.

I used up nearly all my orbs I've been saving for that Easter event.
Remember, Jesus died and came back for this.

I know this is a joke, but Fire Emblem has hundreds of characters. They are not going to run out of ideas for them any time soon.

I like that Nintendo partners with other companies for their mobile games. It takes less resources away from the development of games I might actually play and enjoy.

Nintendo is clearly trying to target Asia/China with this move. Releasing first in Hong Kong and Macau (among others) is shocking.

Oof, that art is really cute. I'll be following this game for sure, seems interesting with Nintendo on board.

I'm more interested to see how the profit methods compare to CyGames other releases. I want to see if it will be tamer or just as dangerous to the easily addicted.

Well, this proves Nintendo 3DS s moving over to mobile.
