Man Files Class-Action Suit Against Nyko Over Bricked Switch

It was only a matter of time until something like this happened. We've all heard about Nyko's Switch dock causing problems with the Switch, sometimes leading to a system that simply doesn't work anymore. That's what happened to Michael Skiathitis, and he's decided file a class-action lawsuit against Nyko over the matter. The lawsuit says that “unbeknownst to consumers, the Nyko Portable Docking Kits for Nintendo Switch are prone to causing numerous problems to the devices that they are intended to support.” It's going to be very interesting to see how this one plays out.

Thanks to Sligeach_eire for the heads up!

I agree with this completely. So Nyko says its Nintendo's fault for not being full USB-C spec compliant? Well then...WHY would you make your device fully spec compliant when you KNOW the thing you are making it for is not? If you have to use the same specs that Nintendo does...that's what you do. Its not like the dock can be used for any other piece of hardware out there...its a product made for another specific product only. Therefore to my mind this falls squarely on Nyko for purposefully making a product that is NOT compatible with the Switch.

I can see him being successful. That Nyko dock is notorious.

The fact this product is still on the selves is mind boggling. The stores that sell it should be also help accountable for this considering it is unlicensed and damaging to the console.

I’ve seen many people defending Nyko and claiming Nintendo is at fault here for not following the USB-C specification. While I can see agree that Nintendo has not made this very easy on 3rd party accessory manufacturers, I still believe that the onus is on them to make sure their accessories are perfectly compatible with the Switch, even if that means deviating from USB-C specs.

Nyko is a godawful company and I sincerely hope they get buried to the netherworld because of this. They're worse than MadCatz and have produced products of low quality builds for way too long now.

MadCatz actually started making some pretty nice stuff, right before their commitment to the new Rock Band game bankrupted their company. (though I hear they're making a comeback, apparently)

Nyko has ALWAYS been bad, as far as I can remember.

I just want a fix so I can start using mine again. Nyko's dock is patchable. Will someone do something to make it safe to use? I was using it almost every weekend. I'm so inconvenienced now. Sad

I sadly don't think this is something that can be patched. It seems to have to do with the actual hardware

Let's see how good of a legal defense "It's Nintendo's fault not ours!" is for Nyko.
