GN Version 5.0

PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya and Atsushi Inaba both appeared at a special Bitsummit panel to talk about various things going on at the company. You can see a breakdown of their discussion below.

- Inaba says he likes games with really in-depth stories, and hardcore action games are in the minority of what he likes
- Kamiya-san says he just likes games in general, and mentioned he finished Call of Duty for the Nintendo DS
- Inaba was doubtful that the perfect action game exists
- Kamiya's pick for the perfect action game is Castlevania on the NES
- Kamiya says the secret to creating perfect combos for action games is about letting the player become the character
- the goal is to make the player feel like they’re doing really cool moves
- Inaba says people think that PlatinumGames makes great combo-action games
- Inaba says this isn't really the intention when they set out to make a game, as It just comes naturally.
- Kamiya says Platinum simply sets out to make the games they like, and they organically become what a lot of gamers like
- this reaction from fans helps motivate Platinum as creators, even if it’s not intentional: they just want to make fun games
- Inaba says the logo of Bitsummit Volume 6 reminded him of The Wonderful 101, which was Platinums' 6th game
- Inaba also fondly remembers how nice it was to work on The Wonderful 101
- Kamiya joked about the 101 name, saying sales are more like 13, so they should have called it “The Unwonderful 13”
- the developers love that game, so it would be awesome for them to be able to release it on Switch
- the audience responded positively to this suggestion
- Inaba thinks their budgets are very reasonable, and the amount of money that is spent on AAA western games is almost scary.
- PlatinumGames prefers to have a variety of different projects with different budgets and content including some self-published
- Kamiya added that it’s not really about the money, as you can spend a lot of money and come up with a really crappy movie
- as a creator, sometimes you want to make small games, sometimes you want to make big games
- it's not about the budget, but about making the game that you want to make
- Kamiya is currently working on Bayonetta 3, and he’s very excited to give more information about it in the future
- Inaba explained that there is a bunch of very interesting games the studio is working on
- one game is unannounced and is probably going to be something new and innovative people have never seen before
- this game will “turn the action genre on its head”
- it’s a top-secret game that a lot of people at PlatinumGames don’t even know about
- seeing all the indie games at BitSummit inspires Platinum to continue to compete and to have a hungry mindset
