Revised Switch units with fixed bootROM bug now out at retailers

Nintendo isn't going to say anything about it, so don't expect an official statement here. Awhile back, we saw some speculation that pointed to Nintendo reworking the Switch in order to fix a bootROM bug used for homebrew. Now we're hearing that those units are out on store shelves. The Switch itself still acts/plays just as any other Switch, and the changes inside will not be noticeable to most owners.

Good for Nintendo!

I really don't like hacks or pirates of games. Especially online enabled games.

Is that a fix on the hardware?
The hackers said it wasn't possible to fix without altering hardware, right?

The exploit is in the bootrom of the chip. The bootrom is unpatchable software, it can only be updated at the factory. It doesn't require new hardware, just a software update that can only be done with physical access to the unit.

Thx for clearing that up for me!

That was relatively fast of them! I expected this to maybe go unfixed forever

It’ll probably end up being a cat and mouse game. Nintendo fixes one hole, hackers exploit another, lather rinse repeat Smile

That’s how it usually plays out.

So, basically, the hacker groups have got a new challenge..

Can someone please come up with a solution that will allow me to use my Nyko dock without having to worry about bricking my Switch?!
