GN Version 5.0

Square-Enix reported their Q1 fiscal results, and while the company was a bit down compared to last year, that had nothing to do with Octopath Traveler. The game has been a phenomenal success so far, and Square-Enix had quite a bit to say on the title.

- sales were stronger than Square-Enix's pre-sales forecast
- the game has exceeded expectations, especially in U.S. & Europe
- there's a higher-than-average ratio of download version vs packaged
- Square-Enix believes a newfound appreciation for JRPGs helped the title
- they also think it drew in consumers who enjoyed Square-Enix's RPGs from the 16-bit era
- new elements like HD-2D, attractive characters, and more helped woo more customers
- Square-Enix still believes Switch is a good platform for mid-range games, and consumers should expect more on the way
- Octopath Traveler will remain Switch-exclusive, and if there are more entries, that's where you can expect them to go
