GN Version 5.0

Looking for an absolutely massive amount of Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee information? With the official website now open, there's all kinds of tidbits to pour over! We've collected all those details and shared them below. Anything you could possibly want to know about the game is right here!

Pokémon are wondrous (and sometimes mysterious) creatures that inhabit the in-game world. Some Pokémon coexist alongside humans, but other wild Pokémon live in tall grass, caves, seas, and elsewhere.

Trainers

In the game, you start out as a brand-new Pokémon Trainer. You’ll meet, catch, and raise many Pokémon on your journey to improve your skills and become the best Pokémon Trainer that you can be. Along the way, you’ll help all sorts of people and thwart the dastardly plans of those who wish to take advantage of Pokémon for their nefarious ends. Of course, you can’t accomplish this alone—you’ll need to work with your partner Pikachu or partner Eevee along with the rest of your Pokémon allies!

Partner Pokémon

You’ll meet either Pikachu or Eevee when you begin your adventure. Pikachu or Eevee will be your partner throughout your adventure and grow with you. Unlike regular Pokémon, your partner prefers to be out of its Poké Ball, so it will stay with you by hanging on your shoulder or riding on your head. It also seems to have no interest in evolving!

Your partner will look a little different depending on whether it’s a male or female. You’ll have to see for yourself which gender your partner will be!

Partner Pikachu

It has red electric sacs on its cheeks, and it raises its tail to check its surroundings. Your partner Pikachu will travel with you by riding on your shoulder. The tip of the tail of a female Pikachu is shaped like a heart.

Partner Eevee

It has a fluffy mane of fur around its neck. Some people say it can start to look like the Trainer that becomes its partner. Your partner Eevee will ride on your head during your adventure!

Female partner Eevee have a special appearance?!

Regular Eevee don’t look any different, regardless of whether they are male or female. But if you get a female Eevee as your partner, you’ll find that its tail seems to be marked by a heart-like pattern! But this is only the case for partner Eevee!

Play with your partner

In between exploring and battling, it’s a good idea to relax with your Pokémon buddies. Enjoy a little playtime with Pikachu or Eevee in order to strengthen your bond with them. They will sit on your arm, allowing you to pet, feed, and even tickle it. Good things might happen as the two of you become closer.

Dress up your partner Pokémon

You can feel closer to your partner Pokémon by dressing alike! Yes, you can dress up your partner Pokémon in various outfits, give it accessories, and change its hairstyle. Coordinate your wardrobes by matching their outfit to yours or mix and match different items to give your partner its own style.

Pokémon Follow and Ride

Any Pokémon in the game can be your traveling companion. When you take a Pokémon out of its Poké Ball, it will walk with you to make your journey even more fun. As you explore the Kanto region with them, your Pokémon might even find hidden items.

Plus, different Pokémon can travel in different ways. Some Pokémon will even let you ride them, allowing you to move faster around the world. It’s a great way to experience the adventure with your favorite Pokémon!

Prepare for Mega Evolution!

Many Pokémon can evolve into new Pokémon, but were you aware that there is also "the Evolution that transcends Evolution"? It's called Mega Evolution, and it's a way to gain power beyond even what normal Evolution would grant. The might of Mega Evolution momentarily unleashes the energy within a Pokémon, and it can only be accomplished through a strong bond between a Pokémon and its Trainer.

In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, you can Mega Evolve certain Pokémon once per battle if you have a Key Stone and a Mega Stone that corresponds to that specific Pokémon. Deciding which Pokémon to Mega Evolve—and when—will be a critical factor in deciding who wins a battle.

Let's take a look at some of the Pokémon you'll be able to Mega Evolve in the game.

Mega Venusaur

When Venusaur Mega Evolves into Mega Venusaur, the flower on its back grows larger and its legs become thicker and stronger to support its extra weight. Its Defense and Sp. Def greatly increase, allowing it to withstand just about any attack thrown at it.

Mega Charizard X / Mega Charizard Y

Charizard can Mega Evolve into two forms: Mega Charizard X and Mega Charizard Y. In each battle, choose the form that will give you the most advantage.

Mega Charizard X

Mega Charizard X's body color changes to black, and its flames turn blue because they burn so much hotter. It also changes types from a Fire- and Flying-type Pokémon to a Fire- and Dragon-type Pokémon.

Mega Charizard Y

Mega Charizard Y retains its orange coloring, but it gains sharp horns, a longer tail, and larger wings. It can fly faster than a jet plane!

Mega Blastoise

Blastoise normally has two water cannons on its shell, but when it Mega Evolves, the two cannons merge into a single large cannon that uses the power of Mega Evolution to launch superpowerful blasts. Its Sp. Atk greatly increases as well, allowing for more aggressive tactics in battle.

Version Exclusives

Although the storyline is the same in both Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!, there are some differences between the two versions. Of course, your first partner Pokémon will be either Pikachu or Eevee depending on which version you get, but the types and rarity of the wild Pokémon that you encounter also differ between the two games.

For example, Pokémon like Oddish, Sandshrew, and Growlithe only appear in the wild in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu!

Cerulean City

Cerulean City is a place surrounded by waterways. When visiting this city, be on the lookout for a mischievous Squirtle that has been spotted in the area.

Misty

The Gym Leader Misty waits in the Cerulean City Gym for Trainers to challenge her to battle. Because she is also known as the tomboyish mermaid, it should come as no surprise to learn that Misty is an expert with Water-type Pokémon. Defeat her and another Gym Badge is yours!

Vermilion City

Vermilion City is the largest port city in the Kanto region. This charming seaside location is home to the Vermilion City Gym. Be on the lookout for the luxury cruise liner the S.S. Anne, which stops here once per year.

Lt. Surge

The tough-looking Lt. Surge is the Vermilion City Gym Leader. Known as the Lightning Lieutenant, he's an expert on Electric-type Pokémon, including his partner Raichu. This cautious Gym Leader has set up his Gym in a way that prevents challengers from getting to him easily!

You'll need to fight Team Rocket on several occasions to hamper their plans. With enough determination, you may even discover the leader of this band of ruffians.

Although you'll battle many Team Rocket Grunts throughout your adventure, a particular trio of troublemakers will repeatedly rear their mischievous heads. Jessie, James, and Meowth are frequent foes in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!

Gym

These notable Team Rocket members like to send out their Poison-type Pokémon Ekans and Koffing, so make sure you're prepared to fight!

What is a Pokémon Gym?

Pokémon Gyms are places for Pokémon Trainers to test their skill in battle. Defeating a Gym Leader will earn a Pokémon Trainer a Gym Badge.

To challenge a Gym, you need to meet certain conditions presented at the entrance. Although the conditions of each Gym vary—such as having Pokémon of certain types or levels—fulfilling them will help get you ready to battle the Gym Leader.

How to play

Your Pokémon journey will contain many trials that must be overcome. Before you begin, you'll want to learn what's in store for you. Find out how to catch wild Pokémon and battle other Pokémon Trainers before connecting with your friends to adventure together and trade Pokemon!

Catching Pokémon

As you wander through the game’s world, you’ll encounter wild Pokémon in fields of tall grass. If you want to attempt to catch the Pokémon, simply approach it. Once you touch the Pokémon, you get a chance to throw Poké Balls at it. The wild Pokémon will move around and may try to intimidate you, but don’t get distracted! Just wave your Joy-Con controller with proper timing to throw a Poké Ball. If you’re playing the Nintendo Switch in handheld mode, you’ll move the system around to aim and then throw the Poké Ball by pressing the A Button.

Make Catching Pokémon Easier

Your chances of catching a Pokémon increase depending on your timing and where your Poké Ball hits the target. Throwing a Poké Ball inside the shrinking ring will increase the chances of a successful catch, especially if the ring is small. Use this ring as a guide for when to throw. The color of the ring shows how easy it will be to catch the Pokémon—with green meaning easy and red meaning hard.

Battling Pokémon Trainers

If a Pokémon Trainer sees you in the field, it’s time for battle! Pokémon battles are held with up to six Pokémon in each Trainer’s party. Each Pokémon will perform moves, and whoever manages to knock out all the opponent’s Pokémon wins!

Pokémon and moves all have types, and type matchups influence how much damage a move can do. For example, a Fire-type move will be super effective against Grass-type Pokémon but will not be very effective against Water-type Pokémon, and so on. There are many other type matchups like this. The key to winning battles is knowing the type matchups and choosing both the right Pokémon to send out and the right moves to have it use.

Play with Friends

Let a friend get in on the fun with the Support Play feature in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! With this feature, two players can explore the world together—and both players can even have a Pokémon travel alongside them as well!

You can boost your chances of catching a wild Pokémon by throwing Poké Balls at the same time as your Support Trainer during Support Play. It will earn your party more Exp. Points, too.

Support Play is also bound to give you an advantage in battle. You’ll both be able to control a Pokémon and issue it commands, giving you the upper hand during the battle.

Link Battle and Trade

Connect with other players and battle them! There are two communication features to use for battles: local communication, which connects two nearby Nintendo Switch consoles, and internet communication, which lets you connect to players who may be far away.

You can also trade Pokémon using these communication features. Trade Pokémon with friends to gather Pokémon you’ve never seen before and complete your Pokédex.

Please note that in order to use the internet-based communication features for battling and trading, you will need to enroll in the Nintendo Switch Online service that officially starts in September.
