July 2018 NPD - Octopath Traveler #1 software, Switch #1 hardware, Nintendo hardware sees highest point in July since 2009

Total Industry: $749 million (up 14 percent from $655 million in July 2017)
Hardware: $217 million (up 19 percent from $182 million)
PC and console software: $246 million (down 12 percent from $280 million)
Accessories: $286 million (up 49 percent from $193 million)

Comparison between July 2017 and 2018 so far

Total: $6.769 billion (up 17 percent from $5.807 billion in 2017 year to date)
Hardware: $1.902 billion (up 21 percent from $1.572 billion)
PC and console software: $2.807 billion (up 5 percent from $2.687 billion)
Accessories: $2.060 billion (up 33 percent from $1.548 billion)

Other tidbits

- half of July’s top 10 best-sellers are Nintendo platform exclusives
- Nintendo is the top-selling full game software publisher for both July and year to date
- Switch is the only platform showing year-on-year growth in full-game dollar sales with gains of nearly 70 percent
- year-to-date sales of full-game software on Switch have more than doubled when compared to a year ago
- overall hardware spending in July 2018 grew 19 percent when compared to a year ago, to $217 million
- this was due to Xbox One, Switch, and the NES Classic Edition
- spending on hardware is up 21 percent to $1.9 billion year-to-date
- Xbox One, PlayStation 4, NES Classic Edition, and Super Nintendo Classic are the primary drivers
- Switch was July’s best-selling hardware platform in both dollars and units sold
- this is the seventh month that Switch has led in hardware dollar sales since launching in March 2017
- unit sales of Nintendo hardware in July 2018 reached its highest point for a July month since 2009
