NES Controllers for Switch cannot be used when attached to the system, only work with Switch Online NES games

Here's a bit of news that's both makes sense, and is also disappointing. Nintendo's official Switch Online page has a blurb about the NES Controllers for Switch that will be available through the service as an exclusive offer. Turns out there are some major limitations on how the controllers can be used.

Please note: Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers can only be used while detached from the Nintendo Switch system, and only to play NES – Nintendo Switch Online games. Nintendo Entertainment System Controllers can be charged by attaching to the Nintendo Switch system.

Not being able to use them when attached to the Switch makes a lot of sense, even if that does kill our hopes for any TATE mode support in handheld. The news that these controllers can only be used to play Switch Online NES games is a real downer though! I was hoping to use these for a slew of other titles, but I guess it's not meant to be.

Thanks to Nf4 Industries for the heads up!
