Super Mario 64's menu was inspired by a 3D graphics demo

Nintendo used the SGI Onyx to help create Super Mario 64. That SGI Onyx had a number of software demos included with it, including a 3D graphics demo used to launch other demos. As you can see in the comparison above, the menu for that 3D graphics demo is extremely similar to the menu of Super Mario 64. Looks like someone was quite inspired by that 3D graphics demo, and either pulled a bit too much reference from it, or meant it as an homage!
