Nintendo has sold just over 5 million Switch units for the first half of their current fiscal year. The initial goal they set for the fiscal year was 20 million units, which means they now have roughly another 15 million units to sell in 6 months. This would be more than the Switch sold in its first year, and it's certainly a lofty goal to hit.

Switch sales ended up being higher this last quarter than projections put them, and they beat out last year during the same quarter. Does this mean the 20 million sold is an achievable goal? According to Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa, Nintendo always knew hitting that figure would be tough, but they're up to the challenge.

“From the beginning we decided on a target that would be challenging to reach, not easy. The holiday season battle begins now.”
