Detective Pikachu test screening receives positive reaction, surprise appearances teased

Could Detective Pikachu be the first legitimately good video game movie? If the results of a recent test screening are to be believed, it appears so! Word on the street is that the early screening went over really well with the test audience. Here's the tidbits that have since been shared about the screening.

- the film is packed with Easter eggs
- audiences felt there were good performances, and a great script
- Ryan Reynolds was praised as Pikachu, and apparently he has great chemistry with the lead, Justice Smith
- the CGI is not finished, but Pikachu’s look was apparently very well done
- there are some great surprise appearances that will leave fans extremely happy
- the film avoids relying on fan service, and instead focuses on telling a mystery

Thanks to Lars for the heads up!

It might be weird enough of an idea to actually work.

I'm going to guess they brought in minion memesters. Really just legitimately doubting that a good Pokemon Movie could exist, not with how hollywood is, and not with how Nintendo treat multimedia spinoffs.

Legendary is producing this. Not Illumination.

Why would they need to fake a test screening? It's not the same as a preview screening, since the point is to test whether audiences will like the movie and see what needs to be changed/added/removed.

That would only bring inaccurate data and harm the movie's box office numbers if they didn't make the necessary course correction.

I never said that it was a fake text screening. Minions fans are a good market, no worries about quality, they will eat up anything that's served to them.

I think it can definitely work as a detective movie with Pokemon in it, and not necessarily a "Pokemon movie".
