Nintendo and Marvel Unite for Nintendo Switch Exclusive (official PR)

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- The Nintendo Switch video game system is about to get a lot more heroic. MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order is heading exclusively to the Nintendo Switch system for Super Hero gaming action at home or on the go. The new game, which arrives nearly 10 years after the previous installment in the series, is being developed by KOEI TECMO GAMES/Team NINJA and published by Nintendo. Nintendo made the announcement with a trailer shown during The Game Awards in Los Angeles.

MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order brings together Super Heroes and Super Villains from across the Marvel Universe to battle for the limitless power of the Infinity Gauntlet, one Stone at a time. This unprecedented team of characters must use their unique superpowers to defeat the mad cosmic tyrant Thanos and his ruthless warmasters, The Black Order. The game will feature an original story and a playable cast of dozens of Marvel Super Heroes, including the Avengers, the X-Men, and—for the first time in series history—the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The new game features the same kind of action-RPG gameplay that made the franchise such a hit over a decade ago. In MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE 3: The Black Order, up to four players can drop in for co-op battles in a variety of ways: They can play online*, link up offline via local wireless or pass a Joy-Con controller to a friend to join the team. With another pair of Joy-Con (sold separately), four players can team up on one system. In addition to the series’ traditional perspective, the new entry will let players select a dynamic, zoomed-in heroic view, allowing for a more immersive play style for single-player or multiplayer when using multiple systems.

“As longtime fans of the franchise, we could not be prouder and more excited to bring back ULTIMATE ALLIANCE with its biggest game yet,” said Mike Jones, Vice President & Executive Producer, Marvel Games. “MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE is all about teaming up with your friends and creating your own ‘dream team’ of Super Heroes to go on adventures across the Marvel Universe, and Nintendo Switch is perfect for delivering on that promise of cooperative gameplay and shared experiences.”

“The MARVEL ULTIMATE ALLIANCE games have been beloved by fans for more than a decade, and this new installment on Nintendo Switch will deliver even more of the thrills and heroics that the franchise is known for,” said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Thanks to our partnership with Marvel, the fate of the Marvel Universe will literally be in the hands of Nintendo Switch players, whether they’re at home or on the go.”

Additional details about the game will be announced in the future.

That was a brilliant and genuine surprise.

Well damn. I do like me some Ultimate Alliance. I have fond memories of playing them

Totally down for this! Love these games.

This announcement was hype as hell. Unless Keighly/Nintendo have something bigger up there sleeve I would've saved this announcement towards the end.

After Spiderman PS4 I hoped Nintendo would snag a Marvel franchise for their own exclusive. Not what I expected and doubt it’ll be anywhere close to Spiderman but it looks like a lot of fun!

I think that's bigger than Spiderman on the PS4. I mean... it's the freakin' return of one of the best series from the GC/PS2 era.

Not even close, IMO. But in all fairness they’re very different kinds of games.

Apples and oranges in terms of gameplay but still I can’t see this matching Spiderman in quality, would love to see them prove me wrong though!

This looks really cool. Speaking of Marvel, whatever happened to that Square Enix/Marvel collab that was announced a couple of years ago?

Team Ninja and published by Nintendo? YES PLEASE!

Oh snap... fingers crossed for the first two to hit Switch at some point as well!

Please don't use the word snap

It was an Infinity War joke

What What What??????

Pretty positive that it'll be a timed exclusive..after which, it'll be on PS4 and Xbox one.

I don't think there's ever been a Nintendo published game that's become available on other systems

It's very rare but not unheard of.

(I guess Sony and Microsoft users can look forward to 2022.)

It's actually still unheard of. Lego City Undercover Wii U was never ported to PS4 or Xbox One. Only the remastered version got released on PS4 and Xbox One so MUA3 will remain exclusive for as long Bayonetta 2 does (i,e forever - until MUA3 Ultimate Remaster releases for PS5 and Xbox Two or Three or whatever name they come up with)

Yes it was.

I agree. MUA3 will remain exclusive until it gets ported to new systems. ^^*

Yes it was.

You're thinking of Lego City Undercover kind of sort of remaster version that was released on PS4, Xbox One, PC and the Switch. Lego City Undercover Wii U still wasn't ported ;p well not in the sense that it lost exclusive status... Bit of a technicality actually I think.

They're the same game though.

Most of the Googles I am seeing seem to disagree?

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/after-wii-u-exclusivity-lego-city-undercover-comes/1100-6448145/

https://www.pcgamer.com/former-wii-u-exclusive-lego-city-undercover-coming-to-pc/

https://www.technobuffalo.com/2016/11/22/lego-city-undercover-once-a-wii-u-exclusive-coming-to-ps4-xbo-pc-and-switch/

I expect they would treat a Marvel Unite port similarly.

Bit of a technicality actually I think.

Sorry if there's confusion. English is not my first language. (^^*)

The key phrase is in 2 of the links you provided:
The new console versions were announced in November. At the time, the games were described as both "remastered" and a "re-release." It's unclear whether the versions coming in spring will be straight ports or or if improvements and content additions will be included.

The 2017 release is a remaster in all but name.with added features and upgraded visuals. Also, consider that Lego City launched in 2013 - the remaster came some 4 years after.

So, we'll probably have a chance of seeing MUA3 on PS5 or Xbox Two(?!?). Just not on the Ps4 or Xbox One.

The weird thing is, in LEGO City Undercover Wii U there are Nintendo names in the credits, and the debugging of the Japanese version was handled by Mario Club Co. Ltd. (Nintendo's debugging team). That made me think it was a Nintendo exclusive.
I wonder if the Nintendo names also appear in the newer versions.

At least LEGO City Undercover: The Chase Begins on 3DS is still exclusive.

To some extent it was. The remastered version is the one that wasn't exclusive. Both versions kept the same name, hence the confusion (unless the Switch version has the same names in the credits!)

If a game is published by NCL, it becomes a Nintendo exclusive for certain. Bayonetta 2 & 3 are good examples for this.

However for games like Professor Layton, NoA handles the publishing meaning they don't own the rights to the game whatsoever.

This makes me so happy. Whoever's idea this was, whoever pushed to make this happen -- thank you!!!

That's a solid exclusive. Good job, Nintendo!

Awesome, the old games were a lot of fun and this one might even be a lot better with Team Ninja behind it and Nintendo probably giving some support.

It'a also a perfect fit for the Switch with the strong local multiplayer aspect.

I so want this game for some 4 player local co-op. The first 2 were awesome and this one looks even better, IMO.
