Look at that list of gemss. Proof that the gamecube was the best console of all time

Sigh, looks like paper Mario at one point was a lead franchise. The way the series slowly died out with every game afterwards losing something important is a real shame.

Didn't Super Paper Mario, and even Sticker Star sell more than the first two games?

I mean after Sticker Star and the Wii U factor it's not surprising seeing Color Splash sales but still.

Quality doesn't equal sales.

Yeah, the thing I was getting at was how Paper Mario could still have been held to high prestige to this day and there would be legions of fans that trust in the franchise to the point were they would buy a future installment not knowing anything more than 'it's Paper Mario'.

Unfortunately, its reputation has dipped and fans are more wary of the franchise going forward. The film industry does this a lot actually, putting out barely passable or god awful works knowing full well that it could kill the momentum an IP has. I feel this is largely due to how films have decreased in value over the years, (not production-wise but to how the viewers consume them), video games have the advantage to live much longer than a film franchise without needing to reboot so there is a greater incentive from publishers to keep the quality up. It will take a lot of effort to regain the trust from fans for them to just buy a Paper Mario game outright again.

Well, making it a traditional RPG again will be a start.

But considering even the Mario and Luigi games have also had Toad issues and recycled content, or bland art direction retconned into the first games.

I wonder if maybe Nintendo will make a new type of Mario RPG that's neither of those two.

Here we are a few generations later and it's the either the same games at the top or they soon will be. Sonic Adventures 2 is the only 3rd party exception on that Gamecube list, it was a big deal at the time as it was the first Sonic game ever to appear on Nintendo hardware.

While the list looks good content-wise, the actual numbers sold isn’t as great. Sonic Adventure 2 was known to be about a million. That said, this may be the only 10 million sellers on GCN, if Paper Mario even breached that.

This just gave me Nintendo Power goosebumps. I remember how melee dominated the best selling games nearly every month.

Super Mario Sunshine does deserve a remake/remaster with extra levels

I keep expecting something like this. I guess what they need to do is compensate for the lack of analogue shoulder buttons. But it seems like there's enough revived interest in Sunshine from the fans that Nintendo would want to consider this.

If not a re-release of Mario Sunshine, some Sunshine DLC for Mario Odyssey would be really nice.

Almost 15 years later, and still the only legal way to play some of these games is with a physical Gamecube/Wii, a physical game disk and some component cables.

Thousand Year Door is the biggest shame of this, I’ve been wanting to revisit that game for ages.

There's got to be another reason we aren't seeing. Wind Waker, Twilight Princess and Luigi's Mansion got remastered and Metroid Prime Trilogy got VC but why not more yet.
