Rain World sees surprise release on Switch today in North America, available Dec. 27th, 2018 in Europe

ATLANTA – Dec. 13, 2018 – Adult Swim Games has announced the launch of Rain World, the challenging survival platformer from independent developer Videocult, on Nintendo Switch™. Perfect for fans of die-hard action and atmospheric sound and visuals, Rain World is available to purchase today in North America for $19.99 via the Nintendo eShop. It will arrive in Europe on Dec. 27.

Rain World will launch on Switch featuring all content included in the game’s highly anticipated Update 1.7 on the PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, coming Dec. 21. This free update introduces two new playable characters – the Monk and the Hunter – which accommodate different play styles and balance the game’s challenges accordingly. It also adds local multiplayer featuring Competitive and Sandbox modes for up to four players, over 40 unlockable multiplayer rooms, an updated bestiary with new predators and prey, as well as general overall improvements and surprises.

Composer James Primate’s incredible original soundtrack for Rain World will also be released as a limited edition 180g double vinyl on Dec. 21 from Black Screen Records. The OST has been remastered for vinyl by Christian Bethge at RAMA Tonstudio (Vampyr, Divinity: Original Sin II, Dear Esther, Another World) and has two variants: a “Glow in the Dark“ vinyl, exclusive to the U.S., and a purple/green double vinyl. The vinyl comes with beautiful original artwork from Rain World illustrator Del Northern, a 12“ Slugcat print and a download code for Rain World’s digital double album, which includes over 40 previously unreleased tracks.

Adult Swim Games has further revealed that a physical collector’s edition of Rain World for PlayStation®4, including the full game, a Slugcat plushie, an exclusive art print, the vinyl soundtrack and a digital soundtrack code, will be available to pre-purchase from Limited Run Games beginning Dec. 21.

Inspired by the design and aesthetics of 16-bit classics, Rain World makes you a Slugcat in a vast, ever-changing world full of danger you must face alone. Hunt for food and shelter while enduring torrential downpours, limited resources and terrifying encounters with vicious predators. You’ll need to move quickly and stealthily, using your wits and reflexes to survive. Well that's quite a surprise! We knew that Rain World was under consideration for Switch, but we had no idea that development was underway! The game is now available on the Switch eShop in North America, and will be heading to Europe on Dec. 27th, 2018.
